[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]The Dolphins are set to part ways with one of the top kickers in franchise history, with a source saying today the team will release Olindo Mare if unable to trade him.

The Dolphins are expected to sign former New York Giants kicker Jay Feely to replace Mare, who was set to collect a $250,000 roster bonus along with a $1.5 million base salary for 2007.

Mare, 34, finished with a career-low field goal percentage of 72.2 (26 of 36) but made his final nine attempts of the season and led the NFL in touchbacks with 24.

Feely, 30, had an 85.2 field-goal percentage (23 of 27) for the New York Giants in 2006 with a long of 47 yards. Feely, who visited Monday with the Dolphins, had 12 touchbacks last season.

altho i hated Mare for the last couple of seasons there's no kidding when i say that i will miss him..

Good-Bye Mare!:(

Guess we better work on that special teams coverage unit if we dump Mare. But he just was too inconsistent last year, I want him to break his funk but hey, 10 missed FG's is unacceptable.

We shoulda made the playoffs 2002 if not for his missed FG kicks, guy sucks when it comes down to the nitty gritty he cant make a big FG to save his life.

Going to miss his strong kickoffs.

Ya that was something you could always count on thats for sure. However I cant say that I will be missing a whole lot else from him. I also would like to say that I dont know if Feely is the answer. Maybe it is the Jay Feely that I dont like it reminds me of A.J way too much.

Yea he sure choked when he nailed that 55 yarder against Denver with time running out back in 2002 I believe (Chambers hurt game).

He used to be Clutch as hell, but has declined and last year was horrible (tho 5 of the misses were over 50 and 2 was on a crap New England field)

Personally I think Thynes our of KC would be the better choice. He is an RFA, but tendered with the low tender. So seeing he was undrafted no compensation required. Just the unmatched Offer Sheet.

Wow, talk about cleaning house!
Chambers must be feeling a little UN-easy these days as well...
I'm not bashing CC, but you have to wonder how many more years
he will be with us considering the $$$ he is making...
We would take a HUGE cap hit if we were to get rid of him
this year....but next year may be different..

CC, you better have a REAL GOOD 2007 season!!
