South FL. Newspapers. Subscriptions?

I read PFT, The Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel and Palm Beach post every day. For the last few weeks it seems the Sentinel and the Post are both wanting me to buy a subscription to read the Dolphin news.
I have been reading Dolphin articles/news on these web sites for years. Why now?

Is it because of all renewed interest in the team and subsequent traffic? Or has time just caught up with me?
Like I said I have been reading these newspapers for years.

I have already removed the Sentinel from my bookmarks and it looks like the Post is next.
Are you guys and gals having the same issue?

I live in Maryland and I have the same issues. I am waiting for the Herald to start next. I refuse to read an article on the internet if I have to pay for it, I already have to pay for the internet service. Seems like I am being double "taxed" for the same thing.
 
yep! Same issue. I enjoyed the Sun Sentinel for years online and then they started requiring a subscription to read. Switched to the Post and now they require it. So now I just stay here!

That subscription stuff is nonsense. If you view it on an iPhone, you can bypass the subscription thing by using the safari reader.

Maybe Finheaven should start under cutting all the Newspaper comapanies for Fins info!
 
The newspapers are just trying to stay in business.... providing services ( information ) for free doesn't keep the doors open ( web site up / bandwidth ) in the long run when there are bills to pay.
Take this site for example.. with the traffic it gets, the pay per click advertising doesn't meet the cost of hosting, bandwidth etc..
 
Looks like this site will quickly be the "go to" spot for Dolphin news.

I thought those web sites paid for themselves with advertising? Just as this site does.
 
This is nothing new. Newsday here on Long Island started that about two years ago. Everyone used to be able to read anything for free, but now they charge to read everything. The only reason why I don't have to pay is because I am a cablevision subscriber and they own the paper. It's about not losing out on the $.50 a day to read the paper.
 
when the subscription comes up just delete your cookies then reload the page. I know its a pain in the azz but it's what I've been doing ever since they started that nonsense
 
they have to make money somehow and if people arent subscribing to their PAPER services, then they have to charge for their net services. common sense.
 
Miami Herald: $69.95 yr
Palm Beach Post: $14.99 month
Sun Sentinel: $9.99 month.

A little out of my price range. Hopefully someone will embed full texts here.

Yep...it's called a paywall. Tons of online newspapers are doing it. I live near Washington DC and my local paper, The Washington Post, just announced they were going to start doing the same thing this summer. Newspapers are struggling and online ad revenue just isn't cutting it.
 
I pay for the Palm Beach Post. The fact is if you want good reporting someone has to pay for it. I'm happy to pay for my newspaper whether it is online or not. If people refuse to pay for journalism, then it will go away. I realize everyone has their budget, and we all have to choose what is important to us.

Frankly, I'm moderately puzzled why people expect it too continue for free. The same people that will drop $20 for 90 minutes in a movie with popcorn, won't pay 15$ for a month of 24/7 news sports and Dolphins coverage? When I lived out of South Florida, I would drive a fair distance to a place that sold South Florida Newspapers to get the latest Dolphins coverage. Seems, like a pretty good deal to have it on all my devices all of the time now.
