Sparano concerned about O-Line and running game.

Ireland is the GM and personnel is our biggest problem.

Sparano is just a glorified cheerleader and he certainly does his part on the fist pumps. What more do you want? Ireland is the one who passed on Ingram and Mallett in the draft and didn't sign even one top FA o-lineman. Ireland is the one who drafted John Jerry over Colt McCoy in round 3 last year.

You can't blame Tony for bad personnel. And personnel (as in no QB) is our biggest problem.

I would disagree and say coaching is our biggest problem but as I said no GM would not talk to an OL coach that has coached these guys before. Cory proctor and the scrub tackle from last year as well as the new scrub tackle.

I support signing O'Hara if Pouncey regresses.
But for now

LT Long
LG Incognito
C Pouncey
RG Carey
RT Colombo-Murtha (to be determined)

Just let it gel over the next two preseason games.

The only thing that will gel with Carey and Columbo on the right side are their concrete feet. Good Lord we will have the slowest foot speed of any
right side in the NFL.
At least our QB will see himself being blown up time after time

Well to be honest, I said the same thing the other day, actually even started a thread about it then.... http://www.finheaven.com/forums/showthread.php?303012-Our-running-game but it seemed like no one thought so then as only 1 person replied, and he thought it had alot to do with our former RB's speed.

I can see his point a little, but I just have felt like this O-line has been a problem for several years now,and although it hopefully will gel and get better this year, it sure looked bad in the running game the other night against the Falcons. Even under Marino the O-line was great at pass blocking, but never much as a run blocking team. Just saying I think it is a big part the O-line and has been for a long time, and again hopefully now with Long, and Pouncey added we can start changing that, but I dont think the problem can just be dismissed though.

You guys are freaking out over coach speak....If Sparano was worried about the OL he wouldnt be talking about it. The more I look at the moves he made on the OL the more it says we will be a passing team first then run off tackle and sweeps and them up the middle last, I wouldnt be surprised if we ran less than 10 plays up the gut. Our pass protection by the guards was awful last yr. You won't see Carey getting bull rushed on every passing down like our guards did last yr. Pouncey will be leading the sweeps, draws and screens.....this OL will be perfect for how they will be used. As for coach speak, find out who hes not talking about or saying good things about (making excuses for) to find out our real weakness

I know what your saying JVW, I really do, and again, I appreciate your comments and thoughts, but even you admit by your statement this team probably isnt going to run up the middle very much, nor is meant to,but that brings up 2 other points how-ever.

1 is you eliminate a threat the other team doesnt really worry about that much at all,and thus can concentrate on shutting down other areas more. Any time an offense is weak in one area,it has to hurt and thus eliminates 1 area of something from there game.

And secondly, how many 3rd and shorts,or even 4th and shorts come up during the season that a yard or two is needed and we cant blast it up in there because we cant move people off the ball, and again,it eliminates a real concern for the defense who then concentrates more on our short passes,or Bush on a swing pass ,or what-ever.

I truly hope your right in that these guys can come together and gel and it not be a problem as the season progresses, but it has been a problem for so long, and it does hurt our offense in many aspects, especially putting pressure on other areas of our offense, that all Im saying is what-ever it takes,it needs to get better and improve, even if we have to look at trades and picking up someone who is a real talent and could help us on the O-line, if that someone is out there even.

It's didn't take longer than that for the Falcons.

If I see one more excuse comment, I'm gonna puke!!!

Let's stop making excuses and start fixing the problems.

Pouncey is a LG not a C.
Incognito can't pull so he's better off at G.
Carey has to stay at RT.
We need someone new for RG b/c Jerry is looking busty and all the others are backups.
Sign O'Hara immediately, line up these guys in these spots:

LT Long
LG Pouncey
C Incognito
RG O'Hara
RT Carey

And then just don't F with it!!!
makes no since. you have to be able to pull to play guard. but i guess you meant c
incognito shouldnt be a starter in the first place. and the only way i would move pouncey is if ohara is signed to play c.
.

Incognito played C most of his college career and plenty in the NFL too. He sucks at pulling and would be better at C.
Pouncey was a LG at UF until his last year. He has struggled with shotgun snaps in college and in camps thus far.
O'Hara can play C or RG. I'd rather have him at C but since Incognito is limited to C, I suggested O'Hara at RG - where he does have experience.
Carey has been playing RT for a long time now - you know that.

Go check the position histories for these guys before "trashing my opinion".

And blame Tony and Ireland when we can't run - not me.

Incognito played center most of his college career ? Er, what college was that at ?

Question to the " experts " on guards pulling. On average, how many plays are left guards asked to pull in a hybrid type west coast offense or any modern day offense for that fact. This is going to be interesting.

Second question, if a guard is really good at pulling but so so at pass and run blocking, where do you put him.

Completely sick and tired of all these O-line issues. I used to love Sparano and would support him any day but this is just ridiculous. Not only do you actually think Henne could be a viable NFL quarterback but the fact that you cannot build a starting caliber offensive line in 4 years is beyond pathetic. Coming into the 2009 season I thought our line was a top 5 unit, now what do we have? Long, Pouncey(maybe he might be as good as his brother), Incognito??? What in the hell is the problem in making a decent O-line mister O-line coach? You have had 4 years and we still have a below average unit!!!

Valid points, I dont think it will be the focal point of our offense but we will be able to do it, thats what Hillard and Thomas will be used for. I also think on those 3rd and 2 and 3, we will be in the shot gun and use the shuffle pass to Bush or Sheets....I think our offense will look a little like the Pats, Saints and Colts.....more like the Saints than the other two but same attack through the air first with short passes and screens.

What I like the most about this team is we will have the ability to go deep if teams try to take this short passing game away....we will have weapons all over the field...Gates, Marshall, Bush, Bess, Hartline, Wallace, Clay.....if these young kids can play and Henne can get them the ball we could be dangerous. All the OL will need to do is take the DL to what ever side he stunting to and let the back find some space.....

Then puke. Our starting LT was out and our C is a 2 week in rookie. Not sure if there were any other new starters but how many new faces did Atl have on their oline? Not an excuse, just a fact.

Guess I have to bump the question to those worried about pulling guards again. Not going to find the answer on google guys. On average in a good game, they may get 70 or so offensive plays in the game, maybe a little more. How many of those , on average, does the LG pull ?

A caveat for the media guys cause I know you peruse the site, you also seem to worry about the lack of World class sprinters on the Oline. Same question goes to you.

Don't worry, Tony! In a couple weeks, Dallas will make their first round of cuts and you and Jeff can go search through the scrap heap.
