Dolphins coach Tony Sparano today defended a couple of conservative decisions made in the first half of Miami's 24-6 loss to the New York Jets on Monday night.
He was asked about decisions to punt on a fourth-and-1 from the Jets' 40 on Miami's first possession and to run out the clock after getting the ball with 1:10 left in the first half.

"You can call them conservative," he told reporters. "I don't."

On the punt, he explained, "Field position down there was critical, and Marlon Moore knocked it down at the 1-yard line (actually the 2). The defense stopped them there, and we got the ball back with field position."

Im really curious what "conservative" is to him....

The only legit explanation is if before he joined the Dolphins he lost his balls in a freak fist pumping accident.

Am I the only one who just doesn't really care what Sparano does or says anymore? You know he's toast. He knows he's toast. I just don't care about the goofball anymore.

Let him have his circus press conferences and fist pumps. January 2nd, the sun comes up.

Tony might be on to something here. The entire sports world fans, and media are wrong. He is right!

Apparently he thinks games can be won without scoring points :idk:

What blew my mind was making no effort to score with 1:15 left in the half and a TO, but then trying to score and using TOs after the game was out of reach. Unreal. He is literally a moron. No other way to slice it. Any other team in the NFL tries to at least get in FG range before the half.

Tony you're doing just fine, suck for luck needs you

It's not the first time. I think it comes from Parcells. Control the clock. Run the ball. Play defense.
Remember the Colts game that we dominated every stat but still lost ? Manning scored TWICE in less time to win the game. I believe confidence has a lot to do with it and Tony has none in our offense. The only QB he let play to win was Pennington. After that we've been playing not to lose.

His thinking was he was only 7 Dan Carpenter field goals away from winning.

Really you gotta go for it there and before the half? that has always been his mo. I guess you don't trust your qb then fine. His problem is he is a flip flopper and fails at both when he does one or the other. 3rd and short go for the home run when you could of had an easy first down. I can't wait to see this guy gone.

I am amazed by him. He said that he didn't try anything at the end of the half because he knew we would be getting it back to start the second half. That is WHY you SHOULD try something!!!! Barring turnovers, the last possession of the first half and the first possession of the second half is the ONLY time in the game when a team can get back-to-back possessions. That is one of the reasons why you defer the first half kickoff. Timed properly and with a team that has some semblance of offense, you have the chance to put up 14 points before the opponent gets the ball. How do coaches not understand this?

He's either incredibly stupid (which is probably true) or he's trying to get fired (also probably true).

Don't you guys get it? When other teams are thinking Touchdowns - Tony is thinking FGs. When other teams are thinking FGs - Tony is thinking about a nice quiet 15 minute break in the locker room.

I didn't have so much of a problem with them going for the home run on third and short as much as I did not going for the first down on fourth. Moore missing the wide open back in the flat was just gravy on the crap sandwich. However, why in the heck would you go for a very low percentage "home run" play and run your routes ten yards down the field if you did not intend to go for it on fourth down? It's like he wanted to screw up third down just so he could "pin them down" at the one. The whole thought process is baffling!
