Sparano forced to drop conservative playbook

Wow. Feel positive about that statement. Feels honest.

The problem here is that even somewhat conservative will be too conservative for this offense. They need to come out shotgun, 4 WRs spread, and motion Bush wide on so many first downs that we fans begin to take shotgun on first down for granted.

The ground and pound isn't working. Our oline is not domininant.

Chad Henne can't be trusted to lead a 20 play drive without plucking it up.

Brandon Marshal is top 5 long ball, go up and get it WR in the league.'

What LB is going to run with Bush?

The old school philosophy not just not working, it has already drastically failed. I hate to say it but we have to go Madden on teams to leave them perplexed in the study rooms. The wildcat wasn't just gimmick, it was also a drastic change of philosophy and it beffudled the hell out of coaches. We need to do the same without so much gimmick- spread 'em wide and let it fly.

"If you don’t score points in our division, you’re going to have a hard time winning football games."

Sounds like he's channeling John Madden :chuckle:

It's about damn time....this Wannstedt/Parcells/Henning style of offense had to go....we need to score points. It took him almost getting fired to get that through his head??

He had to change something cause he's lucky to have his Job. Please lord lets persude Tony Dungy to come back to coaching. He could take this team to the next level. Just my wish.

Our O-Line WILL BE dominant. With Long back in there, Pouncey developing quickly, Incog holding his own, and Carey making adjustments at RG, the only question in my mind is: who will play RT come game 1? Murtha or Columbo? I believe the best player will play that spot.

Yet, this does not mean that we will go back to the ground and pound. I think Tony understands that you not succeed in the NFL with a good defense and a one dimensional offense. Especially when you have playmakers like Marshall and Bush...

I mean really, when you think about it, we've got a pretty talented offense.

As the thread title states, he was forced to abandon Conservative playbook. I think this was definitely part of the conversation back when Ross was considering replacing him.

Being critical of a Dog changing its spots, It will interesting to see how this season unfolds.

Was he born again...or did he rather have no real choice?

you dont want murtha in the starting lineup, believe me, colombo might be below average now adays but if the guy could not hold his own sparano would not dare start this guy. Murtha is a penalty machine, thsoe big plays reggie or marshall make are going to be called back 50% of the time with murtha in the starting lineup. Colombo might give up a sack here and there but thats better than losing chunk yardage and points over bone head penalties by murtha. Murtha had like 3 penalties in 1 quarter!!!!!! who in the hect would start this guy?

While I agree that Murtha is giving up too many penalties, I also think that he is playing better at LT than Columbo is playing RT. (I'm not an o-line expert like Omar, so I could me wrong). If the penalty thing is something that can be cleaned up, then i would have no problem starting Murtha at RT over Columbo. However, there's still two more preseason games and Columbo could improve as well...

In the end, I just want the BEST player at the position starting, I'm pretty sure that's what Tony wants too.

Well i just dont think you can fix that problem murtha has, when the play brakes he instantly looks to cheat to save his *** from giving up a sack.

No, he didn't. He had an Illegal use of the Hands and a Holding call in the first quarter. Then, with about 4 mins left in the second quarter, he had a false start.

It's a preseason game and he was going 1 vs 1 against Charles Johnson, who had 11.5 sacks last year. I think labeling him as a penalty-prone scrub based on that one game is more than a little premature.

Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Hope so.

I don't know about "forced" more so than maybe just told to be open minded and work w/ Daboll. Who knows though..he did almost get fired ;). Perhaps he has no damn say in the Offense ;).
