Is it just me or does it feel like Bill is calling all the shots. Seems like Sparano is just a figurehead and nothing more. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bill with a headset on hidding in the Gatorade mobile calling the plays on Sunday. It seems like all the questions are directed towards Bill instead of Sparano. Even on this sight, do you actually see threads on Sparano?

he has managed to keep Sparano out of the spotlight. maybe he is a figurehead, but i do recall Dallas players begging him to stay when he was rumored to be in discussions with Miami for the job. He has a damn good resume.

I've heard that he was a good coach. But, much like other coaches we've had, you could get a feel for them right away. You could tell Wanny was a Dumb A$$, Saban was eccentric. But, with Sparano, I have no feel for his style whatsover. I just get this overwhelming sense of BILL PARCELL.

Tru that. Sparano's job is to coach. Parcells job is to get the players. BP has more football knowledge than Sparano so if BP wants to take over, I can't say I'd have a problem with it.

That's fine by me. Let's face it, if Huizenga had hired Sparano as head coach without BP in the picture, we'd all be questioning his judgement, to put it nicely. IMO, Sparano is a don't-rock-the-boat puppet for the next few years while Bill builds the team and calls the shots, without having to burn himself out with the day to day grind of the head coach position. Once the players and systems are in place, either Sparano will coast on as HC, or we'll replace him if needed. Either way, Bill was brought in to run the reclamation project. I see him here for 2, 3 years max and he's got a head coach in Sparano who knows the system and won't question his authority, cuz he knows it's the only reason he has a head coaching gig. In the meantime, he's basically got an apprenticeship under one of the most successful coaches in the modern history of the game.

Its one way or another: Ether Sporano is a full fledged HC who is happy that BP is taking the spotlight be cause it frees him up to do his job, or he's a puppet.

also keep in mind that Sparano is the Head Coach and not the President of football operations.. when it comes time to coach Sparano will have way more involvement.. also keep in mind that Sparano will (hopefully) be here for many years whereas BP is leaving after 4

My reasoning if I was a headcoach, I'd want to make an impression to the fans, and most importantly to whatever future team he may coach for. I have no idea how he's going to coach this team during the regular season. To me he's not battle tested, and who knows how he's going to react during close games. Hopefully he won't choke. Does anybody know if he'll be hands off with the offense and defense during the games?

I'll put odds on 2 maybe, a big MAYBE for 3 years from BP.

oh, and before we assume Sparano has no input, keep in mind he has an offensive line background. #1 overall was a LT, and our first FA signing was a guard.

I think this is the way it is going to be until BP is satisfied with the Dolphins and I am not going to question it since BP knows one hell of a lot more about football than I ever will.
I have no idea how Sparano is going to coach either and I am powerless to speculate since he has been pretty silent since he got hired.
At the very least I think we can expect him to be better than Cameron, Wannstedt or Saban.

After Wanny, anybody with a mustache scares the living hell out of me.

I think Sparano will grow into the job of HC over time. There was a vacuum at the top last year when we didn't have a football man overseeing everything. When Cameron went "deer in the headlights" there was nobody to keep the train on the track. I always felt he should have had to answer to Mueller, but that's water under the bridge now.

Sparano has a good thing going with BP installing the framework for a solid organization and Ireland running personnel. Just coach, brother, and you'll be fine.

I don't mind that at all, since that means Sparano can concentrate on coaching in his first year. It also takes a lot of pressure off of him, since Parcell is taking any flak.
