I think this can be taken two ways. He could have called JT in to tell them they did have intentions of trading him. OR They could have called JT in and not Zach because Zach doesnt have a future with the dolphins. Call me a pessimest but to only call in 1 of the two leaders of this team seems weird to me. I think this meeting might mean that one of the two is gone next year. Opinions???

zach's wife probably wants him to retire

I would think Zach is gone next year because of the concussions. I hope he sticks around and I think he would still be productive. I'm not so sure he would go to another team. IMO he'd either play another year or so with the Dolphins or retire. JT on the otherhand, I could see him go to another team. He still wants to play in Miami, but if they don't want him, he is not done. We'll see.

JT has what, 2-3 years left. We should be fighting for playoffs come then, but that's like running a Ferrari in to the ground. We get nothing in return... and I'm fine with that. ZT will be a Fin bext year or he is retiring. Plain and simple. He's not moving his family just to play somewhere else for one more season.

I think the fact that our new HC has to put a call into JT as if he's getting his approval to start coaching the team is indication #1 that JT should no longer be the team. You want to change culture here? Bring in some vets that have accomplished as little as guys like ZT, JT, JP and Holliday and make sure they have twice the humility.

i hope you are wrong about that..he shouldn't need the players permission..calling players and asking them what he should do on and off the field is not going to help this team. he is the coach of this team and they are the players..last year with cam the players ended up in control of the team and we only won one game.

This is why Sparano is going to work out. He gets it. Cameron tried to treat every player the same, and it didn't work, as we saw.

We do not know what they even talked about. Also, remember Sporano's press conference. He stressed respect goes both ways. I think a meeting with Taylor, just to see where he stands is a smart move by our new coach.

Heck, If they want to keep him, he probably just wanted to meet with the #1 face of the team to make sure he was on board. When you have someone like Taylor that has meant so much to the team and carries the salary he does, I think it is something that a smart coach has to do.

This phone call was probably as simple as him saying "I'm looking forward to working with you, and congrats to making the Pro Bowl on a tough season".

This was definitely not a phone call to get a player's approval, that's just stupid. Jason reports to him, not the other way around.

Like what? Like being among the active NFL leaders in sacks? Consistently leading the team in tackles? Being team captains? Leaders on the field and in the locker room? What accomplishments are you looking for? Playoff success? Superbowl rings? Indeed, those 3 players are the sole root of Miami's failure over the past 10 years.

Forget about the rotating QB spot, Wannyball, poor receivers/offensive line/don't even mention TE's/Eddie F'n Moore, it's all JT and ZT to blame. Trading 2nd round choices every other year for backup QBs has nothing to do with it. Years of poor drafting haven't hurt us in the least, it's JT's attitude that's the problem. Ineffective leadership in the forms of Wanny, Saban, and Cameron are nothing when you look at ZT failing this team constantly.

Please. Everyone knows how we got here and why we're in the shape we're in and almost to a man none have tried to blame it on the guys who have been the face and heart of this team for 10+ years. We're not buying it, and as a word from the wise you can try to stop selling it.

this is true but i would of been happier to see him meet the entire team rather than just the "face" of the team to show to every player that they are all important to him and it isn't a one person sprot or team. i don't neccisarily disagree with the call as much as what the reason stated was.

It's really too soon to be surmising what Sparano's reall intentions were with this call to JT. Obviously, either he or someone in the hiring process (Tuna, Ireland) felt it would be a good move to reach out for JT first. While most feel ZT epitomizes the "heart" of the team, JT is the real leader of the team.

As to their future, that depends on quite a few things:

Are we going to stay with the hybrid 3-4/4-3 D ? Probably this won't be known until a D coordinator is chosen. JT can play well in both schemes or either scheme, but will he want to be here if they gut the team and start over from scratch ?

What are the real cap ramifications to keeping JT around versus cutting him ?? Do we really save that much...(I'm just not up to date on JT's particular status). Keeping him around may very well keep us from shopping the way Tuna wants to...Trading him would be probably more difficult to do. We certainly wouldn't get anywhere near the value for him in trade, given his salary...

While it can be significant that he reached out for JT first, it could just as well be a "we're going in a different direction" talk. We really don't know that yet, until JT says something...

As to Zach...I love him as a player and a Dolphin. I wish he'd retire this year and retain the health he has. He may be 'recovered' from the concussions for now, but it just isn't worth the risk that he'd damage the remaining years of his life to play any longer. That is my opinion, and I certainly don't have any medical knowledge, but have seen enough to see that it just isn't worth it for him to continue. I'd love to see him continue to play and would cheer him on if he does, but I just don't think it's worth him continuing, for his and his family's sake....

In his press conference he stated he would like to meet with every player. I doubt if that will happen, but do think you have start at the top in a sense. Also remember that Sporano's big thing is the relationship he builds with his players. He has that reputation, so we all have to trust he knows what he is doing.
On a side note, I was listening to Sirius radio, "moving the chains" they has The OT for Dallas, Columbo, I think is his name. He had nothing but great things to say about Sporano in that he is there at 5 am and leaves at midnight. He couldn't say enough about our new coach. I think we got a good one here.

"Try to stop selling it"... right.

Oh, and I never said JT and ZT were to blame for anything, but in the grand scheme of things, they've accomplished nothing to warrant any special treatment. You're talking about a roster of players that didn't like the previous coach, and when all the chips were laid on the table, these so called professionals pointed the finger at the head coach, when the truth of the matter is, with the exception of the rookies from last year, and they get a pass because they're entitled to at least 3 years to develop, there isn't a veteran on this team that's essential for any long term success.

Regardless of what you think of Cameron, with his nixing of head phones in the locker room, checking the website for player interviews, not breaking up a fight on a plane fast enough, the fact remains that coaching was 3rd on the list when it comes to this team's problems, which Ireland himself even admitted.

Going back to the Fox Sports article everyone is familiar with by now, it was stated that the players were mad because Beck came in in place of Cleo, and the play of the offensive line when Beck was in the game was indicative of their displeasure with him in there.

If the veterans and leaders on this team have developed the attitude that it's 'ok' to lay down the minute they don't like what they're hearing from the coach, or seeing what's taking place in the front office, much like JT and Holliday did in the off season, then if Sparano is intent on changing the culture of this team he should start right there.

Oh, and obviously, I know Sparano didn't get JT's approval to start coaching here. Obvioulsy, you didn't pick up the fact that I was being somewhat facetious.
