During the season, the media had asked Sparano if he thought Pennington would be back next season. Sparano had answered that "...I have not sat down and discussed that yet, that is for the offseason....Pennington knows how I feel about the guy, I have tons of respect for him...."
Then, the media just asked Sparano if Henne was his starter for 2010, (same question they asked Sparano last season about Pennington, which Sparano didn't have to review tape, he answered with an emphatic, YES, Pennington is my starter for 2009!) But Sparano answered 'this time' with a "I have to review tapes and I have not discussed that yet, that's for the offseason...." What does 1 + 1 equal? :read:
That Sparano was being straightforward honest about the QB spot. Sparano had already revealed that he has not rejected the possibility of re-signing Chad Pennington (who last season he called a Pro Bowl QB, remember?).
Then, with the fact that he also said during the season that the "ONLY" reason Pat White became the #2 QB was because of the injury to Pennington.
So it seems that Sparano didn't commit to Henne because he is "pondering", not decided, but "pondering" re-signing Chad Pennington to retake his starting position, grooming Henne one more year to fix his touch and his pocket presence, with a very reliable Thigpen as the 3rd string QB.
Then, with Pennington back, Pat White can continue to be bulked up and developed to be moved to the position he was actually drafted for....the Josh Cribb position.
Pat White will likely be developed as our KR/PR, 4th WR, and WC Specialist in the mold of Josh Cribbs (who was also a QB when he started in this league as well as weighed and is the exact height of Pat White, ).
This could also lead to "pondering" moving Ted Ginn in a trade with a draft pick to say DEN for a Brandon Marshall? Or Ginn and a draft pick to a team for a #1 WR.
:type:
Leaving a QB corps of Pennington, Henne, Thigpen.
And a WR corps of #1 WR, Hartline, Bess, White, and Camarillo or Turner.
