Sparano on comments on Ireland

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-tonyqa092108,0,2834452.story

It's the third video down. Other good comments from the coach as well. Ireland might be the best GM the Fins have had since Joe Thomas.

Yeah I watched that interview a few days ago and I was very impressed. You know Sparano is no rookie coach, he's seen his share of things as an NFL coach. For him to say that about Sparano has meaning. I think Jerry Jones fancies himself as quite the talent evaluator or they would have done more to keep Ireland. I know we were able to get Ireland because we gave him a promotion, but Dallas could have done the same and kept him. Ireland is still young nd we won't know his true value for a few years, but for such a veteran coach to give the credit to a youngster like Ireland, says something.

I don't have any feelings for Ireland. He knows his role, or lack of, and he accepts it.

thats the reason they let Ireland go

Jones is such an egomaniac that he let Parcells basically take anybody he wanted without much effort to keep them because he wanted to prove that he was the reason that the Cowboys are so good.

he wanted to prove to the league that he could win without anybody who is presently in Miami, especially because everybody knows that Ireland doesnt have final say, even though on the surface he does

that said, it isnt a bad thing, because as much experience Jeff can get under Bill before he bails, the better

Yeah I would have to agree. Good for us. I think TO is a great player and Jones wanted TO not Parcells. I think that was a good move for the Cowboys. Pacells doesn't always make the best decisions, but he makes his share. I''l take BP and his ways over anyone we've had since Johnson. I know JJ isn't popular with everyone here, but the guy flat out knew talent. I think DW won because of that talent and lost cause he just didn't understand how to use the talent to it's potential. He stuck with Fiedler and he ran Ricky into retirement. BP will get us back to respectable, but who knows beyond that. I really hope Jeff Ireland is another Bill Polian and we have him for a very long time.

Truer words never spoken.

Greatest GM and talent evaluator ever(in his opinion).:sidelol:

he wanted to prove to the league that he could win without anybody who is presently in Miami,

Which is why he used BP to build the core of HIS team and then made Bill so miserable he quit.

i hope Ireland turns into a great GM for us like i think he will. also, after listening to Sparanos' comments on Ireland,it sounds like he has a healthy dose of respect for him. even if/when Parcells leaves,i think&believe we'll be ok with Jeff&Tony.

I think Ireland has the potential to be the next Bobby Beathard.

As soon as Beathard left Miami, the talent level on the team went way down. All we had was Marino and a couple used parts, that's all we had until Jimmy Johnson built a decent defense.

Bit of an understatement, we were top 5 for quite a while.

Now that is the truth! Beathard was a great evaluator of talent and knew how to put a team together. Losing him really hurt Miami and other than JJ, no one we have had was worth a crap. It appears that we finally have a front office in place that can build a team.

You can ask any Dallas fan and they will all tell you that losing Jeff Ireland definately hurt their scouting more so than anything else we took from them. Jeff has a good understanding of talent and alot of the guys he had input on were successfull. Take for instance in 2003 the Cowboys were either going to take Kevin Williams or Terrence Neuman. Both are good players but terrence Nueman is a shutdown corner while Kevin Williams is a solid to good DT. BP wanted Williams while Ireland wanted to take Nueman. BP was overuled by Jones and sided with Ireland resulting in them picking Neuman. Most would agree it was the right descision.

Kevin Williams is a solid to good DT...? Bit of an understatement.
