''I told him to put it behind him and get going,'' Sparano said. ``Quarterbacks have days like that. If you're going to be a quarterback in the National Football League, that's going to happen. That being said, every day out here is a new day.''

As AI would say, "we talkin' bout practice...not a game...practice"

I really think us fans and the media read a lot more into these practices than the coaching staff does. They've repeatedly said the true evaluation will be the games, but it will be fun to see how many times the "favorite" changes because of a bad day of practice.

from some of the articles im reading they're saying he's still having problems gripping and holding onto the ball..... he needs to get this straight or we'll have turnover problems on a regime that doesn't think too high of it

What did anyone expect the HC to say about Beck..., "He sucks...!" Not going to happen... Not to McCown or Henne... That's classless

For what I see in the report Beck was trowing today, I thought he was suppose to rest and let Mcow and Henne take the snaps.
Maybe he is the one that parcel and co. want to see starting the season

They're rotating practices. On two a days, each one counts as a seperate practice.

I like all of our QBs, but McCown will be the starter Day 1. I don't truly believe this is an open contest, just a screening of what Beck can do. If he shows improvement, they may throw him a bone late in the season, but I expect McCown to the dolphins starter.

But then again, Im not Sparano or Parcells.

I thought it was interesting he went out of his way to praise two people: Ted Ginn and Paul Soliai.

For Ginn, he gave him awful high praise, if you know Tony Sparano. The reporters asked about all the action Derek Hagan got today and Tony talked about it. Then he was asked if any of the other receivers stood out. First thing he said is he's impressed with how fast Ginn has come out and played so far. He all but revealed disappointment that Ginn was "up and down" during the spring, but noted that he's been different in TC so far. When Tony Sparano says that a guy is playing fast, it should be taken as high praise because what he means is that the guy knows what he's doing to the point where he's not thinking, and they have a confidence to them, and players that aren't thinking and are confident in what they're doing naturally play faster. That was the praise he originally heaped on Derek Hagan during mini camps. Evidently now he feels that Ted is really getting it, knows what he's doing, and is a lot faster out there.

The other guy he praised was Paul Soliai which I found to be interesting. Ozzy praised him. Channing Crowder went out of his way to praise him, even to the point I think where the reporters had asked Channing about two other guys and Channing said forget about them, the guy that's really been impressive is Paul Soliai, lost 30 pounds since last year, has been 'beating the hell out of people' so far, etc. Sparano basically just went out of his way to say something very similar about Soliai's weight loss, his use of hands, how well he's practicing, etc. Then he noted that fundamentally, Paul still has a ways to go.

Great point. Different sets of eyes. Clearly Ben Volin saw a 'bad' outing for Beck, while Jeff Darlington, Edgar Thompson, Harvey Fialkov and Omar Kelly saw much better outings.

heres the pbp version on the same stuff sparano was saying.

Just stating beck bounced back and had a better day.

Dont read TOO much into these live blogs, the tend to form their own opinions.

Yes they do, and sometimes they're not even paying THAT much attention to whats going on, on the field. If you look back at the media, under their nice canopy, you will see them BS'ing with one another half the time and hardly looking at the field. Even a guy like the Big O said it's kind of hard for him to look at the entire practice because he's on the air and fielding phone calls.

All these talking heads are fools. I wish they would just report what happpens and keep their bias to themselves. I will admit it's hard but thats what they went to school for. To report without bias. As Jack Webb on Dragnet used to say "Just the Facts Ma'am!"

The only people who are confident in Beck are mainly posters on here. Thats just a fluff statement by the coach. Do you really expect him to say he thinks Beck blows if thats how he really feels? Get real.

I am always surprised when fans repeat what coaches say. This is the same guy that continually said Taylor would be here, and then he was suddenly gone.

You would have something bad to say about Beck. You know for a guy who dosen't like Beck you sure talk about him alot....even gave him a special nickname....

Beck has problems holding onto the ball because he suffered a nasty arm injury which has been his problem since his senior year at BYU. IF he recovers then he will be a deadly qb... if not then I guess another one bites the dust.

At the end of the day Beck broke all of Steve Young's passing records at BYU and is currently their best qb in BYU history... thus everyone needs to give him a chance to sink or swim, last year was a test run, this year is still sort of one given the "green" look of our team, but unlike last year Beck had better perform up to standard.
