When the game was on the line, with 3 seconds left and little more than a kick return's chance of winning, who waits to return the kick?

Davone Bess, the player who's returned 99.9 percent of the kickoffs this year?

No.

Ted Ginn.

The coaching staff turned to him to make something happen when we were most desperate.

Why do they not turn to him ALL THE TIME?

I think they are trying to send him a message about his development at WR. Maybe like punishment.

Because they obviously believe he is our best threat in that department.

Otherwise Bess and Cobbs would have been back there.

yea i knew he was gonna be back there.
I dont understand why he is not all the time.
But i knew with 3 sec left they would throw him back there.
BUT
i do not mind having bess back there he might not of broke a huge one yet but he is pretty effective

idk what Sparano's trying to prove but he's only hurting the team by not playing Ginn

i agree, i actually started a thread about this earlier.

Regardless of what we think. Ginn has not played well enough to justify putting him in all the time. Football is a game of field position. And if your kick/punt returner is always letting the ball bounce for more yardage. That can kill a teams chance to win. Personally I think he is better on sidelines to watch what returners should do.

Personally I could care less whether or not he may be able to take one to the house if he gets right kick. I would rather have the guy that goes for positive yardage all the time. Ginn hasn't done that. Which is why he is on the bench. Can he change? Personally I don't know. He looks like a deer stuck in headlights to me.

But has Bess played well enough to justify playing him at KR/PR all the time? I mean Ginn at the very least has going for him that we invested A LOT in him, and if we want to make that investment pay off it would be wise to use him at an area where he is strong at.

You are wrong about this. Bess is a bad kick returner. This team is in the bottom five in kick returns and Bess is our main kick returner. He makes it ot the 21 and gets tackled. We might as well take a touch back every time atleast that eliminates the chance of him fumbling.

Not if he is costing the team field position by letting ball drop for more yardage. Regardless of his contract I want the guy who is actually doing something out there. And negative crap like Ginn has done this year doesn't justify him out there. And that goes for him in passing game too. He has not impressed at all . Yeah we invested alot in him by selecting him so high. So what players get drafted all the time only to turn out to be busts later. And no I am not saying the kid is a bust just yet. Although he is walking a tightrope with it. Personally I would like to see him use his speed and burn everybody on the field. But he hasn't been able to do that.

Well i don't think he'd do that too much. A couple of times we saw it with him this season but he's an experienced enough return man to know when to let the ball drop and when not to. He's electric back there, a true game changer, and for them not to use him really is just foolish. Especially since he's really not giving them anything else right now.

Bill Parcells and Sparano have invested NOTHING in Ted Ginn. Thats the reality.

True but is that really a reason to condemn him? As over valued as he is/was they could at very least use him for KR/PR until he becomes a more polished WR worth keeping on a roster. I fully expect Ginn to be out of here either very soon, but whats the point of not using his strength's in the mean time.

because ginn let one go behind him in the san diego game is no reason to condemn him for letting them bounce.. he can fair catch like the rest of them. I can understand if hes our starting WR and we need him healthly and untired so he can run his routes to his best ability, but since we see nothing out of him and they dont look his way, i think we should use him in the return game due to his ability. Say what.. 6-8 teams have a returner that can put electricity into a team in this league?? we have one on our roster and he is not utilized.. Cam may have drafted him as a returner but atleast he got that right because thats what he can do... he has reliable hands too, just wait until they start throwing his way.

Funny, I thought the exact same thing. If we feel he is dangerous enough to be our last hope at winning the game, why wouldn't he be back there all the time, not just in desperation. If Sparano feels he gives us the best chance for the score, why not have him back there to begin with? Just mind boggling!

Yeah, I was totally disappointed in the team's overall performance but Tony will be/should be second-guessed by putting Ginn back there at the end of the game. His justification w/ Bess is "he always makes the first guy miss." But guess what. The second guy just about always manages to tackle him.
