Sparano wants accountability for host of damaging errors, penalties

By Omar Kelly | South Florida Sun-Sentinel DAVIE -

A kickoff out of bounds. A 9-yard punt. Two penalties by offensive tackle Jake Long that negated decent gains. A late hit to quarterback Brett Favre to give the Jets an extra 15 yards.

The Dolphins must have felt like one of the NFL's most charitable franchises based on all the yardage they donated to New York in Sunday's 20-14 loss.

By coach Tony Sparano's tabulations, the team gave up more than its share of "hidden yardage" via mental errors, penalties, sacks and miscues.

"All of a sudden these things start to add up and when you look at it during the course of the game, you give up over 100 yards' worth of field position," Sparano said. "Some people say that's six points."

I am not an NFL head coach but this artical might have a little bit to do with why Miami lost by 6 points. Young teams make errors. Good artical and good philoshopy by Sparano. I was waiting all day for some one to post it.

And he missed a few also.....

He needs to look in the mirror.

The play calling was bad. The Jets were crowding the LOS with eight in the box all game long and he kept on trying to run on 1st and 2nd down, putting us in 3rd and long way too many times.

The choice to take Ricky and Ronnie out of the game on third down is just plain stupid. Ronnie might not be an "elite" RB, but he has GREAT hands and is a good blocker. He should be playing on third down.

The decision to inactivate Wilford was a bad one.

The decision to take Ginn of KR duties was stupid.

The clock management was poor.

The secondary is a joke.

He has a lot to take responsibility for.

True, but playcalling isnt one of those things. He dosent call the plays. Why have so many posters acted like he does?

The Wilford decision, the Ginn not returning every kick, and the clock management...yes. Piss poor decisions.

Sparano doesnt call the plays, Henning does
His reason for taking them out was to put less wear and tear on the R and R

How is it his fault the secondary cant cover lol
All in all your right just pointing out a few things:up:

He's the head coach. If the play selection sucks, and they don't adjust to what the defenses are doing, then ultimately, it's his responsibility to fix it, that's why.

Add Roth at OLB...just didn't have the speed to stop that TD run around his end...Yeah he does some good things out there, but opponents could really gameplan to take advantage of that: move him inside and Ayodele outside you are better off. IMO Roth just doesn't fit our scheme. Hope we can get good value for him before his stock falls. He's a 4-3 DE

I agree he needs to look at himself hardest.

Cobbs even on team makes little sense , Wilford was a bad signing but he should have played or been cut one or other. Ginn not returning kicks is plain stupid, we upgraded special teams just to downgrade the return man . Not to mention we take all preseason to choose a FB and we cut him after game 1 so that means we blew that one bad. The receivers are horrible and he should be able to see that before week 1 and the secondary is fairly bad also.

I agree. I blame the coaching staff for the loss more than the players.

That's spot on. If we had a coaching staff that was more prepared for this game and had some common sense, maybe the outcome would have been a different one.

Remember that Dan Henning was fired in Carolina because fans complained about his mega-conservative play calling.

Not to mention the personnel decsions.

Feeley was not all that on kickoffs but that was a huge error.

Oh piss on Feely. He blows. Dlockz youre as solid of a poster as there is alot of times. You could enhance that alot by ceasing to sweat Culpepper and Feely.
