I play bass for a fairly large church. We had a musician come through once who was a monster on hammond and gospel keyboard. I had the privilege of sitting in as part of the rhythm section.

I've played bass for a long time for a lot of different groups, and I've been around some really good musicians. However, this guy was really awesome. He was the best keyboard player I have ever heard in person, plus he could sing all the harmony parts, and he could play walking bass lines with the foot pedals on the hammond. I was kinda in awe when we first started rehearsals.

Anyway, after the rehearsal, I went over and said "man, you are really awesome."

He looked at my dolphins hat and said "you a dolphins fan?"

Here's the rest of the conversation:

Me: Yeah, since I was about 4 years old.

Terrence: That's cool. I sang the national anthem for some of their games. I sang it the night they retired Dan Marino's jersey.

Me: Man, that is really cool. How did you get that gig?

Terrence: My brother used to play for the Dolphins.

Me: Oh yeah? Who was he?

Terrence: Mark Clayton

Was at that game, it was really cool it was Claytons brother but his voice wasnt all that great. like a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.

that was awsome dude, how is mark doing by the way?

He didn't really say anything either way. After I got over the initial shock, I told him how awesome I thought Mark was, and that I really think the dolphins should retire his jersey too. (I was 13 when Marino and Clayton were drafted, so they were pretty much my heroes when I was growing up).

He just smiled, like he agreed with me and didn't say anything. I got the impression that he hears that alot from people. I didn't really ask him about his brother much more after that b/c I'm sure that he's been through that whole scenario many many times.

I will say that he was a really cool guy, and he could straight up jam on some gospel keyboards.

After I found out he sang at that game, I went back through my tape collection, to see if they had any of it on there. It wasn't telecast before the game, as usual, so I never heard it.

That stinks that he didn't do very well.

i was at that game - baltimore if i remember right - and believe there was hurricane coming through as well...
