Special Teams Good & Mostly Bad

Last year, Jordan was our best player on special teams, and Jones played being average. We lose nothing in cutting Sheppard and Coleman.

Jordan was our best player on special teams? I thought that was Don Jones. How many tackles did Jordan have on special teams? I can't remember any. How many fumbles did he cause? I can't remember any.

Reshad Jones had a bad year but this thread isn't about the defense, it's about special teams which Jones does not play. We were down linebackers for the first 3 weeks and it showed on special teams. In the first 3 weeks we gave up an average of 30.9 yards per kickoff return and a TD and 14.6 yards per punt return. It was only slightly better against the Raiders with Jordie Tripp back. We need linebackers on special teams.

Surprised no one has mentioned Rizzi. I've never been a fan - don't think he's done all that much better after taking over for his boss, Beezelbub or whatever his name was the morning after NE scored like 12 special teams TDs against us in a Monday night game. I

I don't know the stats but I feel as though under Rizzi our coverage units have not been that good and we get too many block in back penalties - though this year we seem to have cleaned that up.

Jordan had 4 tackles, missing 1, with a best grade of 3.0 overall. Don Jones had 8 tackles but, missed 4 and had 3 penalties with a horrible grade on minus 12.5. You are right on R Jones, who only played 1 game on st last year, thought it was more. However, Wilson was 2nd best last year, and has only played some in 1 game so far. With Jones back, he should be freed up and a big help.

Kovics and M Moore also played well but are gone. Adding in more of LB's Trusnic, Mc Cain, and Tripp, along with the others should improve the ST's a lot.

In 2011 and 2012 Rizzi's special teams were really good, top 5. Last year, and so far this year, really bad. Not sure how much to put on the coach or the talent he had to work with. For example, this year's injuries have really good ST's guys moving up in playing time on D, and not playing as much, if at all, on ST's. Jenkins, Trusnik, Freeney, Wilson, Jordan, Tripp, and Fede would have made a positive difference.

Coleman isn't a LB, and Jordan is faster and more agile than Shepard on STs. This is a no brainer Jordan has plenty more upside all around than Shepard. Are you really saying we are considering keeping Jordan out so we can keep Shepard or Coleman? :err:

Are you using PFF to back you? I don't buy into their grading system because they don't know what the players jobs are so how can they possibly grade. It's good for some things but not the end all.

As I said before...McCain can't stay active, Trusnik has been forced to start because Misi can't stay healthy and Tripp just came back and he's a rookie. If you cut linebackers you hurt special teams.

Coleman isn't a LB, and Jordan is faster and more agile than Shepard on STs. This is a no brainer Jordan has plenty more upside all around than Shepard. Are you really saying we are considering keeping Jordan out so we can keep Shepard or Coleman? :err:

Are you using PFF to back you? I don't buy into their grading system because they don't know what the players jobs are so how can they possibly grade. It's good for some things but not the end all.

I used NFL as well as PFF. I have no time to watch every player on ST's busting the wedge, containing the return, etc. If you have, fill me in?
