Many fans overlook ST's and and how important they are. Last year, in spite of mid-seasn improvement, we pretty much sucked.

I feel there are legit reasons, not excuses, for this. We replaced half our team (going through 80 players to do it), had little depth, and IMO most importantly our top picks were not ST players.

This season, I'm looking for a HUGE improvement. Guys like Davis, Smith, Hartline, Wake, and others are HITTERS who can tackle and can put a helmet on guys. Fields was good, but can be much better.

I don't see Ginn returning much. So, Bess or someone else is gonna have to step up.

Our ST's could be the difference in winning a couple games or more, and that may mean making the playoffs.

Your thoughts?

With better ST play last year, we would have won at least one more game - thinking of the Houston game. Hoping and expecting HUGE improvement.

It's funny ST's use to didn't scare me, for the last 2 years, every time they came on the field, my heart started pumbing until we actually tackle the ball carrier.. I'm not sure if it's scheme or players, but I hope we get it fixed fast this year..

This year we are playing a number of teams who, on the surface, have more talent. ST's are really important.

I felt the same. Now, we have a few Headhunters, and I look forward to when they cme on the field.

Smith has a 6'8" wingspan. I will bet he blocks a kick or two.

Parcells and Sparano has said the key to a great team is Speacial Teams so i know that was on there radar this season.

This year they have the talent n ST's. I believe they are gonna be SPECIAL. I saw Wake's pic, and he is a SCARY SOB.

I expect a bone crushing tackle or two.

Our STs were horrid...Just putrid. I still remember the Seattle game...That ws pretty much as close to strokeing out that I've ever done during a Dolphins game....EVER. Three guys were directly in front of the PR guy...One move, they all fall over themselves and he was almost gone. I was throwing **** around the room for plays after that. Holy crap I was mad.

One thing I will say is that once Walden was signed and put out on the field, STs got lots better. He seems to move at a different speed than everyone else on the field. That's why I just sort of chuckle about some of these guys' projected depth charts...Walden is going to make this team, I promise.

Hopefully Bond will push or take Field's job.

I'm gonna join you in that promise.. Walden will make the team and even if it is just as a pure special teamer and he never gets on the field for a defensive play..
and I am pretty excited that we got him, Walden plays with speed, is a fearless wedge-breaker and a violent hitter..

they should make charlie anderson play with his hands tied behind his back that we he can't get called for holding on a ginn td.

I wondered who was taking Hoffman's job (gone to KC). Darren Rizzi, former URI head coach and Rutgers special teams coach (for several years) who...SURPRISE! used to coach under Sparano. Another homer. We're getting Tony's family along with Tony! One of the things I do like about Sparano "homer" picks is I think they are less likely to bolt if someone (say Bowles) gets hired away next year and that they already start with a good working relationship with the head coach.

The changes are already on. Pats OTA due to the change inthe wedge rule more TE and LB are on special teams than DL .TE tend to be faster then most LB and i already see due to the wedge rule change more TE and WR coming on spl teams.

alot of teams which cannot match the speed of TE and WR are going to be in trouble as big slower ST are useless with the spred rule, wedge rule and player count on half field rules.
