This is pure speculation based solely upon circumstantial evidence but hear me out...

The first Blow was when Cammeron announced that chambers would be switching from the "Z" position to the "X" position.

Among the changes this offseason have been a switch from defensive-minded coach Nick Saban to Cam Cameron, considered an offensive guru. For Chambers, it also has meant spending the past month adjusting to a new role at receiver. In football jargon, Chambers has moved from the Z to X position. Why? It's a subtle change that could have substantial results

This just happens to be the spot that Booker has been holding down since he arrived here...Now initially I didn't think much about it, but then read a little article by Kirwan about the switch from Z to X...

An X receiver is a wide receiver usually lined up on the line of scrimmage and mostly to the weak side (away from the tight end). Because he is on the line, he is not going to use motion in the pre-snap. X receivers tend to be taller than Z receivers and must contend with cornerbacks that want to jam their release. Randy Moss and Terrell Owens are classic X receivers.
A Z receiver is a wide receiver occasionally referred to as a flanker. The Z receiver will line up off the line of scrimmage and is eligible to go in motion. .... In general, the Z receiver is quicker and occasionally a bit shorter than an X receiver. When both wide receivers are to the same side in a formation, it is referred to as a 'slot' or 'flip' and the Z is usually inside. Santana Moss is a typical Z receiver.

The Z role does not sound like booker at all. As of now we have three receivers on the roster who are X's (chambers, booker, and hagan) and three guys who are definite Z's (Campbell, Hakim, Ginn jr)

I think Mueller and cam will cut booker as he no longer has a starting role on the team. The thing is, if he is cut there is no cap penalty for us. So we are free to keep him until the first day of the season and either trade him to a team after an injury, or just cut him in training camp with no penalty...

Now personally I like Booker and love his play, but 3 million plus is a lot to pay for a back-up WR....

Am I the only one thinking we can go into the season with Ginn Jr. at 1, Hagan at 2, and Chambers at the slot? With Chambers being interchangeable at the 2 when we play 2 receiver formations.

Could be - If in fact he is cut/traded, I'd speculate that the money we save from that would go to someone like Pete Kendall...? But it's bound to happen sooner or later with Ted Ginn. I'd doubt Ginn would start at the Z/flanker spot this year, but he'll get some work and should be starting in 2008.

Seeing Cam's admiration for Ginn it wouldn't surprise me if it was sooner than later. I do not know if it will happen but one can only hope.

He could very well be a slot reciever in three reciever sets

I dont know why so many people want Booker gone. If some people watched the games and knew anything about football then they wouldnt be saying this. As poorly as our offense has played, Booker has been the most consistent. Why do other players get a free pass when it comes to "In a new offense with a new coach, these playeres will be pro bowlers"?

agree 100%

I hope not. he has been the most consistent reciver we've got now.

Only last season was he better. Take away last year and Chambers is more reliable. Booker has played for 9 years, Chambers for 7. Chambers has played in only 11 less games with only 500 less yards, a better ypc average, a higher long, 10 more TD's and only 10 less 1st downs...Granted Booker was on a horrible Bears team but I still think Chambers was more productive..On another note that I didnt know was that Booker only played a full season twice and missed a total of 19 games in his career, where chambers only missed 2 games total. Historically, Chambers is more productive and more reliable than Booker

If Booker is to go I'd want it at least after this season. Ginn hasn't had the chance to show us what he can do at the WR position. At least until we have some certainty on how well Ginn will do.

Keep Booker now and we'll talk about this next year.

I wouldn't be confident with Chambers, Hagan and Ginn

Well, it's a sign of how bad Mularkey was that Chambers was the Z and Booker was the X. Chambers has the skills of a classic X. And Booker is much more suited to be the Z, running the underneath and intermediate routes.

It doesn't sound like Chambers is an "X" WR either. He's not very tall and not very big...but very athletic. It would seem like Chambers would fit better as a "Z" WR. I say that because if Chambers can go against the mold as a formidable "X" WR, then why couldn't Booker be a formidable "Z" WR?

I think they would shop Marty Booker if the price is right. However, the price HAS to be right. I don't think Cameron is comfortable going in and expecting Ginn to pickup right away and have Hagan take over for Booker just yet. I think the reason why Miami hasn't been so adamant about trading him is because they realize they need him. Anyone that Miami has wanted to get rid of this offseason they have done so...McMichael, Olindo, etc. We'll see what happens. Marty could be let go in July or August.

Why would we trade our best receiver. Booker has performed more consistently than Chambers ever since he came from the Bears.

Ginn is a rookie, give him time to come around (hopefully). He'll need Booker to show him the ropes, cause Chambers can't.
