With Parcells now out in Dallas, and Jones always wanting a "big" name, I would not be shocked to see Dom Capers become the Cowboys coach within the next few weeks. There is no way Carroll leaves USC, or Fisher leaves the Titans(Cowboys would have to give up picks). Capers has previous head coaching experience and will likely be a target if not the main target by Dallas.

So much for signing that extension. Hopefully Dallas chooses a coach fast, because depending on the route they go, we may need a new defensive coordinator and I would hate to have to pick up somebody's junk.

I hope Capers doesn't go to Dallas. He's been doing a good job here. His previous head coaching record should be enough to dissuade Jones from hiring him.

He has signed his contract I believe, and havent we chosen to not give any of our assistants/coordinators the opportunity to seek new jobs?

Jones is interested in Wade Phillips, and Bob Stoops. He wouldn't want Capers, not his style.

You can block assistants only if it's not for a head coaching job. So no Miami cannot block it.

However I don't see Capers being a viable candidate. Capers struggles were more visible in Texas then anywhere else as a head coach since it was the same state.

You can deny them from going elsewhere, except for head coaching jobs. Doesn't matter that Capers signed the contract, if he wants to interview for a head coaching job, he can and there is nothing Miami can do.

dont have alink because i heard it the radio, but... according to Mike and Mike (espn) thi morning, Parcells has already made arraingments to attend Sr Bowl week to look for assistants. They went on to say that a coach who will be retiring or moving elsewhere doesnt do that. So its their opinion that Parcells is staying put for at ;east one more year. Take that for what its worth, i guess. I dont think Capers is going anywhere

Jones would have to be willing to pay big money, Capers makes more than our headcoach

Dom did sign his extension however any team can hire him if it's for a HC position. Look at this article though:

Doesn't mention Capers in their search ideas:
"If Jones wants a proven commodity, he might go after Tennessee's Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher, recently resigned from Pittsburgh. Both are under contract for 2007, which means their teams would get compensation in addition to the massive salaries they'd command. If Jones looks for an NFL assistant, he could go for unproven but highly sought Ron Rivera, defensive coordinator in Chicago; or for former head coaches like San Diego defensive coordinator Wade Phillips or San Francisco offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner would be a popular choice locally; he called plays for Dallas' Super Bowl team in 1992 and remains close to Troy Aikman.
If Jones goes after a college coach, big-name candidates would be Charlie Weis of Notre Dame, a former Parcells assistant, and Southern California's Pete Carroll, who coincidentally replaced Parcells in New England in 1997. Bob Stoops of Oklahoma and Houston Nutt of Arkansas, Jones' alma mater, also might be considered."

Don't see Capers going to Dallas, and who would want to inherit TO?

Um, Parcells already retired. It has been plastered all over the news since around noon.

Capers could interview for the position of head coach for Dallas but since Capers has already signed a contract with Miami we would require a first round draft pick in compensation. Knowing how Jerry Jones conducts business I don't see him hiring Dom because Jerry's coaches are just puppets with the exception of Parcells. If Jerry Jones was going to have to give up a first round draft pick he would rather get Bill Cowher anyways.

I think you just made that up. Link, proof that this is a rule?

I think Wade Phillips is who he taps. Terry Glenn was on Dan Patrick this morning and stated that is who he had heard Dallas was looking at. Also, Chris Mortenson went on to confirm that. This speculation about Dom Capers has only been seen or heard from in this thread. It is a non issue at this point.
