I wonder how long that Speilman will remain with the club? Will Saban keep him around long enough to help sign the draft picks? Or will Nick do that all on his own? I think Nick will do just fine to signing our draft picks. Does anyone think that Speilman will be retained?

If he had anything to do with this draft, I think he may be kept around

He probably wore out some shoe leather researching this draft. I'll give him some credit for being a part of the total scheme and for his hard work. Now on the other hand, it apparently doesn't bode well for him if Saban has no comment about his future with the phins.

I think Spielman got smeared by being with Wanny.

The guy is a hard hard worker - so he is now one of Saban's worker bees. Saban figured to keep Spielman around in order to NOT reveal to any other club Dolphin insider information. In the meantime the guy is a mixed bag. He has made some good decisions and he has made some miserable one's as part of this org. But it is difficult or near impossible to seperate what Spielman has done from Wanny's lunacy. I think after being around Saban another team that wants to know how to evaluate talent can now take Spielman and benefit from the fact that he learned from the MASTER!

Remember, Spielman made interesting personnel decisions, but we still don't know the results of those.

When you look back on the drafts and who he wanted vs. who Wanny wanted, he was pretty correct. I think he has a real eye for late-round talent.

Trading up for Carey was a mistake, but I don't know how much of that was Spielman.

As a talent scout, I think he's WELL above average. As a GM, not so much. Keep him in his role.

i wonder what, if any, influence he had on our draft

my guess is he was a strong advocate for Matt Roth. Just because IMO that's exactly the type of player he seems to love. Look at the Tony Bua pick last year, the Derrick Pope pick, even Will Poole, and Rex Hadnot. What do all have in common? They're for the most part classic overachievers. True football players that produce on the field. They're physical, not necessarily real big, and don't necessarily have great workout #'s (slow 40's, etc.), but they just produce on the field in similar fashion. That's exactly what Matt Roth is - a beast, and classic overachiever who has a passion for physical football play.

BTW, all these Dolfans knocking on Spielman, i think is unfair. The guy gave us a solid draft last year, he's got good experience, and I love the players he's put on this team. He obviously strives for players who have a passion for the game. I hope he stays, and I think Saban will keep him, not as the GM though. Maybe as the top assistant GM or something.

His contract has to be renegotiated .Obviously he will not get paid GM money anymore. He might just do a Jim Bates and move on.IMO he will be given a face saving out but he will be gone nonetheless.

JMO Rick Spielman:
a really good hard-work evaluator that lacks negotiations skills.

So,in my eyes we should keep him and just let him do what he knows.:nofly:

One can only hope that hack hits the road. Hopefully some AFC East team will sign him...
