Hello to All.....

I was at a very ho-hum night practice today..... as it appears that the coaching staff is trying to try and keep enough players healthy enough to line up against Jacksonville this Friday night....it really does look like a mash unit out there...with so many key players out for various lengths of time....but to all who are panicking right now---please hang in there---there is still plenty of time for WANN-SPIEL to fetch up some needed depth....as Spielman has a list made up already of some 75 players or so that he feels could be cut shortly....and ones who he would bring in here. But for right now....he has to see which players will be stepping up...and one of those guys who will be under the microscope this week...is T WADE SMITH.

SMITH has been told that he has the "opportunity" right now to step up and show the coaches that he can be counted on this season....if he can perfrom and grade out to their high expectations that they do have for SMITH...right now. He has shown improvement in recent practices....although he is having difficulty containing the likes of JASON TAYLOR....he is not getting as badly beaten as he once was...to even a point where SMITH was getting very frustrated.

Make no mistake about the fact that the DOLPHINS want SMITH to be able to play this season.....they are well aware and are concerned about MARK DIXON and how many games will he last...and they want him to gain confidence right now.....and that is BEFORE the DOlphins pull the trigger on bringing in that veteran insurance at LT....which they will do shortly.

There is no way that this coaching staff does not bring in a veteran tackle shortly.. what I am hearing right now is that SPIELMAN is waiting for the first wave of cuts....and then will see who matches up on his radar screen list. The Dolphins are now wary of both RICHMOND WEBB and BIG CAT WILLIAMS....based on there current conditioning....as WEBB and the BIG CAT are up around that 340 pound mark right now.... it may take weeks for both of these guys to get into shape....as Spielman now may be leaning toward having a guy coming in...who has already been in a teams training camp...from the beginning.

The good news on the OL front....is that JAIMIE NAILS is coming around....and the play of SETH MCKINNEY has been stellar for depth. ALSO....BILLY YATES...who I made a mistake with his name on in an earlier segment.....has definately made an impression...and he looks like he is going to make this roster...he has come out of nowhere...like Dixon in some ways. As for DIXON....he just continues his injury saga....and quite frankly....the DOlphins have got to make a key evaluation on SMITH in these next two exhibition games....and decide if they can indeed count on him when the bell sounds. Now....if he plays well.....he is going to start opening day....but make no mistake about it....the coaches are not stupid...they know that they will not go into this season with a rookie tackle and MARK DIXON on the injured list....that is not going to happen....and with that said...they will bring in that veteran tackle.....shortly....but not this week.

With Yates playing so well, and Dixon being injured, where does that leave TAYLOR WHITLEY and TIM PROVOST/GREG JERMAN....assuming we bring in that veteran LT.

Thanks for the report DCH. One question...what do the coaches feel about Moore being out for the year? And can Greenwood get it done? Also can that new Long Snapper get it done? Thanks again.

Greenwood better get it done. His contract is up next year..

Anyone know exactly(or at least a good guesstimate) how long Dixon is done for?

Yeah, exactly when is Dixon coming back? Week 1?

One more thing....what about Stemke? Does he have a shot at making this team? How do the coaches feel about him? Thanks.

I keep reading he may not play the 1st reg-season game.

Oliver...

Well, your bye week is week 4.....I suspect a few players will be available come week 5(Gadsden, Dixon). You would still have 13 weeks left in the season no matter how your first 3 games end up

Three to Six weeks, which means he will most likely miss the Houston game.

Well they wouldn't have considered Big Cat Williams anyway because he's a right tackle.

IMO, if he can do decent against Jason Taylor, then that should be a great primer against some of the other players out in the big bad NFL. Great signature Peanut!:cool2:

Do you guys think Wade can hold up for the first three games? After that we get a bye and Dixon and he can spell each other. That would save Dixon as well. Who are the DE's Wade would have to cover the first three weeks?

In week 1 he'll have to deal with a 3-4, so he might get Charlie Clemons or he might get Jerry De Loach. Against the Jets he'll get his biggest test with John Abraham and Bryan Thomas as the 1-2 punch from the RDE spot, flip flopping with Shaun Ellis. Against the Bills he'll have Aaron Schobel and Ryan Denney back and forth with Takeo Spikes coming from his WLB spot. Not the easiest of beginnings.
