For better or worse Jordan is going to be a DE this year. So how does Colye split up the playing time?

Last year, we had a total of 1167 snaps on D. Here's a breakdown of who got what.

Vernon- 929 snaps. Young guy who took a big step, and can handle a lot of snaps'

Wake- 694 snaps. Aging some, and missed time with injury. In 2012, had 936 snaps in an unbelievable year.

Shelby- 446 snaps. The forgotten man who was easily our best run defender at DE. He earned his playing time, and should be better.

Jordan- 339 snaps. He will have to earn his playing time at DE, and it's very likely that it will be in taking snaps from OV and/or Wake.

Good problem to have. How would you balance the snaps?

Unpopular voice but, if Vernon can put up another 12 sack season I have no problem with him starting ahead of Jordan.

It was a very underwhelming 12 sacks from Vernon, as most were coverage sacks and off 2nd chances. Still was impressive, and encouraging to see, however his play last year was definitely overrated if you look back on the tape and further into the stats (I sound like a nerd saying that lmao).

do you get the inspiration for this post from Omar's twitter page? https://twitter.com/omarkelly/status/471678986032930817

Agree, his sack stats were overrated due to play from his team. However, he did improve a lot from the year before, and I expect another improvement this year.

Hopefully this year there are less defensive snaps to split. We were 28th in the league on opponents plays per game with 69.2
the leading defenses last year faced over 100 less defensive snaps.

I wouldn't worry about to split. Someone always seems to get injured in the trenches so we will need them all.

I hate to suggest it, but Cam Wake's guaranteed money from his 2012 contract runs out this year and this could be his final year.

Our coaching staff's insistence on Jordan playing DE might be more of an indication of what will happen in 2015, rather than 2014. OV and Jordan are our starting DE's in the post-Wake era.

Not sure about that. With Lazor's hurry up and hopefully quick strike O, I think we could see about the same, and maybe more. I belive Philly had about the same last year.

not far fetched at all. Wake is due $11.2M in 2015 and will be 33 years old.

Philly was worst in the league. They allowed 71.6 plays per game on D

Good point Z, and I am thinking the same.

He could restructure before then, I'm sure it will be expected. I honestly think this is a good problem to have and we may even see sets where you have 3 DE's on the field at the same time when its pass only situations.

I'm personally more worried about having guys like Jason Trusnik seeing playing time when one of our top LB's goes down than worrying about which DE gets what snaps.

With that snap count break down keep in mind Wake miss a few games which led to the others getting more than usual.

I'm good with the rotation they have with Dion getting an equal share this year. The more solid pass rushers the better.

In 3rd down passing situations we will probably see Wake , OV and Jordan all on the field.
