I think those rankings in that paper and in several others are designed to generate sales more than to provide an informative opinion. Some things must be taken with a grain of salt. In this era of free internet information, scouting rags like that one have a tough time generating revenues, and often move to sensationalism to sell their magazines. We used to see it in the pre-season collegiate rankings a lot, but now it's even more widespread. In sum, they have no track record of success and I question their agenda. Don't trust that source.
That being said, some could honestly consider Clady or Williams the best LT if you're exclusively talking about potential in pass pro. Clady in particular has the tools to be the best pass pro in this draft, IMHO. That is also Williams' clear strength ... potential. Williams is a weak run blocker and Clady is a very poor run blocker, so any ranking that rates those two at the top must not be considering run blocking whatsoever.
Personally, I prefer a LT that helps the team. If we had Marino, I'd rate Clady the best LT in this draft too, because protecting his blind side is a HUGE benefit to the team. But given that Parcells offenses always grind out wins by eating up the clock, keeping the other team's defense on the field, physically banging them into the dirt until they're weak and tired in the 4th quarter, I'd say any OL that cannot run block at a high level isn't even going to be on the Dolphins' draft board. IMHO, neither Clady nor Williams are good enough run blockers to be considered 1st round draftable by the Dolphins, and may not even be on our draft board at all.
The LT's Parcells & Co. have at the top are undoubtedly 1) Jake Long, 2) Jeff Otah, 3) Branden Albert. After that we're talking about players who are either weak at run blocking (Clady, Williams, Baker, etc.); or aren't considered satisfactory pass protectors (Cherilius, Nicks, Collins, etc.). So, if you're comfortable with Vernon Carey--who had one of the highest amount of allowed hurries in the NFL at LT despite having one of the lowest number of snaps--then we do not need to worry about our LT situation. Otherwise, there's 3 guys who fit Parcells' system well and can play LT ... all 3 are 1st round choices: Jake Long, Jeff Otah, and Branden Albert.
