Forget talk that the Dolphins need an accomplished deep threat. General Manager Jeff Ireland insists they have one in Clyde Gates, who had only two catches for 19 yards as a rookie.

“You are really going to see Clyde Gates’ future starting this season. He has a great future,” Ireland said. “With his background, he wasn’t going to come in Week 1 and blow everybody away. He has to learn to be a better pro, a better worker and more flexible in the offense. But I have high regard for him. The only thing I was discouraged about was not getting him more opportunities last year.”

Too risky to trade Marshall in the hopes that Gates is the deep threat. Not saying that's why he was traded though...

Hmm, not often that Ireland comes out and endorses a player...Might mean he gets cut.

Although he didnt show much as a WR, he did show incredible speed. With work on his route running, and if his hands are solid, he can be quite a threat

5 years from now, people will still be talking about Clyde's potential.

I've had it with Ireland. "You guys are going to miss Brandon Marshall, the only legitimate receiver we have, but don't worry, Clyde Gates will replace him". F*** You

Hmmm really didn't take long for the PR BS to start up did it? Now Gates is the greatest thing since slice bread? Ireland clearly thinks the fan base are a bunch of idiots. Maybe he's right, knowing that the fan base will continue to support the team no matter the garbage product placed on the field!

I like Gates a lot. He's not a #1 but I think he will take off in this offense. Ireland is right about opportunities though, really outside of Marshall nobody got the ball throw to them much. Even Bess disappeared in games. We just didn't throw very much.

TRANSLATION: I know all of you are pissed about the Brandon trade, so I am going to ease your fears by telling you that Clyde Gates, despite his inability to play all last year, has finally realized that he is not running track anymore. We have signed him up for Jerry Rice's Future Stars Football Camp, and we are praying that he learns how to catch. Otherwise, I will yet again look like an idiot for continuing to be the sole reason everyone looks at this team as the armpit of the NFL.
