Sports Buzz: Concerns still linger

concerns seem legitimate to me...wow did finnegan throw his former dc under the bus...that's probably the most biting comments i've heard a player say barring it being the "unnamed player" attachment...he straight trashed his former dc to the public

miamis dts will be easy double team and into the 2nd level targets...can't understand for the life of me why we didn't bring in a plugger to help keep the lbs clean...

season will come down to the offenses scoring more points this year...offense has to take it up a notch...be more consistent...starts up front with the play of the oline...the d will allow time consuming drives b/t the 20's at least...can't stress enough how critical dion jordan is to help us get off the field...vital imo...

i imagine there will be a lot of in game adjustments where miami is rolling up a safety into the box putting more pressure on the dbs and lbs in coverage...pass rush better get home...if you are an oc you are going after our lbs in coverage and with misdirection and overpursuit...

jarvis landry rave reviews in a setting that isn't even what his game is about...once the pads come on i expect him to take it up even another notch...what body control and ball skills and he's so polished...gets a db turned around gives the subtle pushes off with the ball in the air locates the ball and catches it with pillow soft hands...i expect a hines ward like pro career...and yeah that's some high damn praise...be a fan favorite from the get go with his work ethic the physical nature and toughness he plays with...

To be honest I wasn't a big fan of the Landry pick when we are so deep at that position. Didn't see it as a big upgrade and still don't, even if he turns out to be as good as we all hope. Gibson was maybe our best WR last year before he got hurt so no matter how good Landry is he won't be that much better than Gibson. But I have to admit the more I hear about him the more there is to like. He seems to truely be a player that has the ability to make those around him better. If he is as good in the run blocking area has advertised that is something that tends to make everyone on the team feel obligated to push their blocking up a notch to not look so bad while watching tape the next week.

By the end of the preseason Landry may be a fan favorite by the majority of dolphin fans. He doesn't seem like a rookie. Might be pretty hard to keep him off the field.

I agree somewhat esp with our state of the team. We could have taken another lineman but Turner was a few picks later. I think Landry was a luxury pick to a degree and if he isn't one of our top 3 receivers kind of a waste to a degree. I think the team sees potential in Landry to be a starter. I actually liked Moncrief better but I have no issue with LANDRY pick especially since it was refreshing not to overdraft a guy in the second round after taking James in first

The idea that Landry won't be much (if any) better than Gibson puzzles me. We're not talking about one of the NFL's best slot WR's in Gibson. Landry's the real deal.

They can't help it.Always gotta invoke some doom and gloom, else some folks can't sleep better at night.

Hmm five non winning seasons in a row might do that. Two winning seasons in the last nine years might do that.

I want that job: this just in "concerns linger and water is wet" film at 11

 Great, now Barry Jackson probably sucks because he pointed out some negatives and unknowns (never a good thing to have so many question marks) about the team. Some of you should just stick to getting your Phins news from www.miamidolphins.com .

He's not breaking ground with anything he said. All of the things he mentioned linger from last year. Until proven otherwise, he's right.

"@mikeym29us: True or False. The dolphins are actually changing up their snap counts #XOmar"» I haven't heard GO and GO-GO. We'll see.

Sounds like Go-Go may be retired. :hclap:

gibson and landry have different skill sets...gibson is more your win quickly across the face of the db east west route runner...will short arm a ball down the seam or bail out at times to avoid contact...doesnt offer much rac...sounds like i'm knocking the guy but he gets a little worried about contact down the seam and in the tight red zone at times...doesn't have much rac or run thru contact...definitely good news that he was able to be a full participant in the scrimmage for him being full go come full contact in camp

landry is more the physical fearless precise route runner with the best hands on the team...has a large catch radius for his size uses his body well elite ball skills and awareness...will work down the seam in traffic and make the tough catches and sacrifice his body to do so...remains to be seen in the pros how he will fare inside winning quickly across db faces etc but i would expect him to provide both the east west and some north south...can make the first guy miss provide some rac and has good vision and is a tough tackle in the open field...

more natural feel for zone and soft spots and recognizes coverages very well...and as tough as they come...absolutely ideal fit for a option route system

The big unanswered question is Bill Lazor.

He's in charge of a brand new, inexperienced o-line, a RB corps in need of big holes inside to thrive, a QB with a lot of tools but lacking in pocket awareness and deep touch, a shallow TE grouping. And he's installing a brand new offense.

On top of that, he's play calling for the first time in the NFL. It's great coming up with an innovative system but the pieces have to knit together. If the run blocking isn't on point, Miller and Morenos struggles will force Lazor to make tweaks which will put pressure on other areas of the offense, or he'll have to tip the hat to the D on run plays. Tat in turn will have knock-on impacts.

So he'll have to adjust his playbook and his playcalling, some of it for the season and some of it on the fly. He'll also be strategising against some of the brightest game day brains in the business. Tough enough when you're a seasoned pro, but daunting as a rookie OC with big unanswered offensive questions in the squad. His ability to counter some of those game day challenges could be curtailed by how raw some of the components are.

I really like the guys demeanour. I can envisage players developing fast and really wanting to win for this guy. His trajectory as a coach is clearly upward. But it would be a huge uptick in his personal career if he were able to steer this "offense under reconstruction" to the playoffs. It'll be asking a huge amount of his players and himself. Only one component has to underperform for him to have to compromise his plans and give him match day headaches he has little enough experience to combat.
