Defensive line: Cam Wake, Mario Williams, Jason Jones and Andre Branch will share time at end, and Ndamukong Suh, Earl Mitchell and Jordan Phillips are set at tackle. So that's seven.
That leaves potentially two jobs open among Dion Jordan if he's reinstated, Chris Jones (a former Patriots starter who was deemed expendable after missing last season with an injury), Chris McCain and Terrence Fede (both have practice squad eligibility but need a strong camp to stick on the 53), plus long shots DeAndre Coleman and Cleyon Laing, among others.
The Dolphins have a plan for Jordan if he's reinstated, and agent Doug Hendricksonhas told me that the Dolphins have indicated he's in their plans. I would make Chris Jones the slight front-runner for the other job, but that job is very much open.

Safety: Reshad Jones is automatic, Isa Abdul-Quddus and Michael Thomaspresumably will stick and Walt Aikens is the clear front-runner for the No. 4 job (ahead of Shamiel Gary and AJ Hendy), because the Dolphins consider him one of their best special teams players, and because Vance Joseph says he sees Aikens developing into a good safety.

Receiver: DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills and Leonte Carroo are automatic and 5-7 Jakeem Grant almost assuredly will be Miami’s fifth receiver because of his return ability. What's more, the team believes he can contribute as a rookie receiver, too.
“The skills are there” for Grant to be a dangerous slot receiver, backup QB Matt Mooresaid. “He’s as fast as lightning. He’s getting a grasp of the offense. He’s understanding leverage on the field. Absolutely, he can be a player. There’s a future there, I think.”

Tight end: Because of his lack of in-line blocking experience, the odds are against seventh-rounder Thomas Duarte can beat out Jake Stoneburner, Dominique Jones(12 NFL games for three different teams) or a player who will become available later for the No. 3 job behind Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims.

But the Dolphins really like Duarte's pass-catching ability and he will get a long look, with the practice squad a strong possibility if he doesn't make the 53.
Undrafted Gabe Hughes has strong receiving skills and, like Duarte, is a candidate for the practice squad.

"Dallas Thomas, the first team left guard through minicamp, isn’t automatic but has a good chance to stick as a backup swing tackle/guard"

The best I can figure is it seems like Gase is intent on letting his coaches and himself do their own evaluations and coaching up of the roster before they make any decisions.

Will see how long that goes on and who gets released and demoted along the way.

Earl Mitchell is set? I certainly hope not unless he is the 4th DT but that doesn't match up with his salary. He must be one of those players who looks like a lion in practice and a lamb at game time. I guess he has been going against Dallas Thomas so that helps. I think we could potentially keep 9 D-linemen.

I'm just hoping that's Jackson reaching

If Gase can get Mitchell and Dallas Thomas to play well, he's my Coach Of The Year.

They have both had ample time to show something.....anything. It's time to move on.

DT: Suh, Jones, Phillips
OL: Albert, Tunsil, Pouncey, Bushrod, James, Urbik 1 of these 3....Turner, Young OR Douglas

I'm not a fan of running with only 3 dts especially when none of the options are poa players...only way I'd consider that is if Phillips shows in camp and preseason he is unblockable...which I'm not expecting in year 2...this teams thin enough at dt already...Jason jones kicked inside is not a good option unless it's very scarce

dallas Thomas anywhere in the depth rotation as a swing tackle is horrific...just cut the damn guy already...if you activate that you get one injury and he's coming in unless it's on the pivot...I don't even want it as an option...you only activate 7

get rid of him

In the scenario where Jones beats out Mitchell and we end up with Suh and Phillips as the starter, then we end up with a #4 DT as the 10th highest paid player on the team. That's a spot (with minimal injuries) that would likely only get 200 snaps or so in a season. Last year it was...

Suh 982 snaps
Mitchell 501
Phillips 430
Mosley 215

Other than that we have

Deandre Coleman 6'5 314
Jordan Williams 6'4 287
Terrence Fede 6'3 285
Cleyon Laing 6'4 290
Jason Jones 6'5 280

I'm just not sure who can be that stout player vs the run next to Suh. I don't see him on the roster.

it's odd for sure not to have a stout guy at dt especially considering our hand picked mike lb is not known for his poa play and physicality

as far as mitchells salary I recall a few years ago we paid a now former dt over $4 mil to basically get no run...so there is prior pay for no play with this franchise recently...I would suspect Mitchell will get decent run when they spell Phillips especially and to a lesser extent suh should Phillips beat out Mitchell in camp for the starter

I can't recall that former dts name...had dreads kinda a tweener 3 and 5 tech...marginal player

I'd be willing to bet there's where he ends up, as much as everyone is dying to see him cut. He's played games in both spots and still pretty young.

He makes 1.7 million this year and if cut Miami gets most of that back in free space as it is his last year of his rookie deal.

His base salary is the third highest for an OL on the team.

He's gonna have to be really damn good, probably has to start, for them to keep him.

I have him cut, but I am rooting for him to somehow make major improvements.
