Though nothing in OTAs means much in the grand scheme of things, new Dolphins cornerback Byron Maxwell has looked good early.

"He has done a good job," Adam Gase said. "He has challenged the wideouts. I know, offensively, he makes our guys better, because they know they’re going to get a tough matchup every time that they go out there. He hasn’t disappointed me one bit. He has done a great job of getting his hands on balls, and it makes it tough on not only the receivers, but the quarterback, because that window is tight. When he’s covering a guy, it’s going to be a tight throw.”

The Maxwell/DeVante Parker matchups in practice have been competitive."It’s great going against him," Parker said. "He’s very tall and long, just like me. He knows how to play the ball well. We make each other better.”

• Parker said coaches are having the receivers work at all the receiver positions and that's "very exciting. Teams can’t cover you when you move around. If you’re in one spot, it’s an advantage for them."

Parker says he's "very comfortable" playing in the slot if he's asked to line up there occasionally.

Best dolphins coverage in south Florida. Gotta love Barry coming through during a really slow period for football fans

He didn't say anything in that article that walker, Kelly, Armando or any of the others have said. Usually by the time I read his summaries I've already gotten the info from the others.

i'm with 1 dol fan on this. I skip all those other sources you mentioned and may get info a little late but it's done professorially with out the sometimes BS personal opinion of the columnist.

Less colorful Barry just does his job and in my opinion does it well.

him playing the slot will hopefully allow the defense's nickel corners to cover him

Wow.

Jackson is far and away the best beat writer in South Florida. I have gotten to the point that I wont even read the others that were mentioned because I know Jackson will cover it much more thoroughly, professionally and accurately.

Walker???!!! If I hadn't seen you on here, I wouldn't believe you have been following this team. ...At least you didn't include Perkins.

Barry Jackson is so much better than other Miami sports journalists in terms of style, content, and sources that I actually dread the periods he goes on vacation. How he is able to consistently produce on a daily basis without descending to Omar-ish whining or Walker-like retreads is a testament to his craft.

Outside of Barry Jax, I think Mando has come a long way in the past few years. I think he has value in that he seems to have well-placed sources, and he has done a good job of holding the team accountable on some of Philbin's crap over the past couple of seasons. But if I could only have one local writer, it's Barry Jax hands down.

I think the difference actually is he not as visible as those other guys. While people here have a problem with Kelly and crew, I actually learn a lot about the team through them. With Kelly's action sometimes when he reacts to getting criticized, he can be a pain. But what he said about the team for the last couple years has been true, like it or not, so I listen to him because he hasn't been wrong enough for me not to. I want to know both sides of the ball, not just the good stuff, but also the bad. Then I form my opinion of the team. Kelly and crew go out and watch OTA's, I'm not sure Barry does. Just me.

We all have our favorites and it's really no big deal. Mine were Darlington and Ben Volin but they both moved on.
Omar and Mando are front page in the SS and Herald sport sections where as Barry stuff is kind of buried and comes out later in the day so I could see why someone would prefer the other two personal feelings aside.

Any comments on the article posted ? We have kind of side tracked the OP's thread.

Brother let them bring out the best in each other to make this team better for it.

Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it. Kelly gives information, but it's often wrapped in a biased agenda driven approach. You have to digest a great deal of crap to get to each nugget. I think a number of columnist are looking for one of three goals: entertain, inform or agitate. To me it's clear which goal Kelly is looking to achieve and which one he's best at.
