Sports Buzz: Offensive Tackles

I dont think they will rely on him, at best he is 3rd man in the rotation. He was cut for the practice squad so they could develop him and seeing as he was picked right back up once they could they do see a spot for him. They had great depth last year to start so they had to cut him. They had Ordick, Starks, Solia, and Vaugh Martin to start last year so him being cut was just because they had alot of talent already at DT

good teams keep their best 53 regardless of depth at position...so the depth thing does not hold water with me...he's got some talent i don't deny it but they didn't like him enough to use a roster spot on him for some reason

maybe that will be different this year...

There are 5 starting positions on the o-line. We need to fill either 4 or all 5 of those positions. The d-line only has 4 starting positions and we might not need to fill any of them. RECAP: o-line needs 4 or 5 new starters, d-line needs 0 or 1 new starters.........How the hell is that the same?

There are 22 starting positions on the team, and the OL is just a part of that team. Some positions are more important than others but, they are not all on the OL. For example, if we do not keep Grimes, are all,or any, positions on the OL more important than CB? Of course not, that would be silly.

IF our OL were around average, Phans would not be as up in arms on the OL needs but, we SUCKED, and they are with justification. Don't close your eyes to the Forrest over 4 dead trees. IMO, based on projected availability, we can add 3 or maybe 4 quality starters on the OL in FA. If not, then I have to adjust my thinking based on who we do keep and sign.

if miami signs one of our free agent dts we only need one dt...if we sign none we need 2...pretty simple...ideally you get a 2 deep rotation of quality interchangeable pieces but miami has bigger fish to fry this offseason...is dt really a need...just depends on what happens at the position in free agency and with our own

i foresee only one returning so yeah to me it's a need...a need to have someone able to step in in case of injury and give you snaps...miami will probably roll with wake odrick vernon and jordan on passing downs anyways as the front 4 in 2014 to get more bang for their jordan buck and let vernon work on slower footed and laterally interior olinemen

so i'm sure they feel like dt while a need is down the list a bit...they have their 2 deep rotation at de already set...no need there

I don't see Starks coming back, and am not that sure Soliai will either. Soliai plays half the snaps, and Coyle has not used a 3-4, which diminishes his value. Soliai is not a DT who can play more than 2 downs. IF we end up with him and Odrick, I think we're dead in the middle, with no one behind them, and God forbid one gets hurt.

We need a 3 man rotation, and there is some VG talent who will be there at #19, and a few in FA who are more complete than Soliai in FA.

The depth of line they mention is why I'm much more interested in BPA at 19 instead of forcing the issue with Martin or CK. If Mosely or Ebron were sitting there I'd have a tough time passing them up knowing I could still get one of the others mentioned next round.
My thoughts exactly. Miami can potentially sign two mid-level offensive linemen in free agency -- someone like Collins perhaps -- and then get help in the 2nd-4th rounds there. Would love Mosley or Ebron.

Does anyone here, in their WILDEST dreams. believe that we are going to draft 2 starters on the OL for this year?

It's time to put some "needs" into our draft. Best player available should not be the strategy this year.

Are you suggesting we have typically drafted BPA? There is plenty of talent for OL in this draft. Good guys can be had in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to hopefully supplement a couple good free agent signings. No reason BPA can't be the strategy in the first round. If need and BPA match...great. We need some seriously talented impact players and there are plenty to be had this year. Believe it or not we have needs other than O-line as well. And I said I hope we don't have to, in other words, I hope we get some good free agents that allow us not to feel forced into taking OL in the first round. We'd have to overspend on playmakers in FA that you don't pay as much for in the draft. Yeah, OL will be more expensive in FA too but not to the same scale. I'm fine with OL in the first if that's how it plays out, just hoping we get a surprise playmaker there for us that will end up a pro-bowl type talent for years.
