Sports Illustrated: lydon murtha adamant incognito never bullied martin

Come to think about it, JMart's father, and grand father went to Harvard, he was legacy and had the grades & money to go (a shoe in basically). Yet he chose to go to Stanford, which is close to mommy and daddy. It's all is making more sense.

Martin needs a "pillow party" ala Gomer Pile in Full Metal Jacket.

Some former NFL player, don't remember who (I think it was Rich Gannon) said that when he went to the Raiders, he was apalled by the hazing behavior, which included a "pillow party".

This whole thing wreaks. It's almost as if the media is acting like he KILLED Martin, instead of leaving a (presumably) joke voicemail saying he was going to kill him.

They had no choice. If they did nothing, could you imagine the public outcry?!? Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be in South Florida within the hour. I'm surprised they're not already...

If the black players came out and said they didn't like Richie using the N word then the Rev Al would be picking Davie right now.....but because only 1 black player out of 30 had an issue it not a problem.....I never once believed Richie was a racist just a fool.....

Doesn't have a dog in this fight? Are you kidding me?

Murtha is a college teammate of Richie Incognito's. Also Murtha was the presumptive starting right tackle until Jonathan Martin was drafted.

Doesn't mean he doesn't have some of the details right, but the idea that Murtha is just some unbiased former teammate is laughable, and I am laughing at it.

After reading that article I am totally on Incognitos side. The fact that the Dolphins suspended him is a joke.

they suspended him because he said the N word

and if all of you are reading, Murtha is implicating the coaching staff as well....so.....this great article isn't without its lumps

HA HA...thats amazing!!!!!

This article nothing more than what some of us have been saying from jump street, simply because we dare to look at CONTEXT of NFL life, and Cogs and Martin in particular.

This should not be shocking. Some of us have been clear in setting forth the facts of NFL team life. "Animal House," yeah. But with a CODE.

And Martin crapped all over that code.

Richie -- even with his past -- has ten times more honor than Martin in this.

I think this piece makes several good points. It is not -- cannot be -- a wholly first person account. Many of the details here are coming from Incognito, imo, who is no doubt pissed off at Martin, the Dolphins, and puppies. He probably feels like maybe his own name is so tainted that he can never win a he said/she said battle with Martin, given that outside of this message board, apparently, his name is mud. But he can get a former teammate to get his story out there, at least in part.

I happen to be a big-time Draft Nick. I still have tapes of Murtha and Incognito playing together at Nebraska so Murtha is going to be biased. Secondly, Murtha was not on the Dolphins with Martin long enough to know anything about the relationship between Martin and Incognito. All Murtha did with the Dolphins was draw penalties and get hurt every other week during the pre-season.

Yeah, the spin Florio put on that is amazing. It's like he only read selected bits. The answers to all his criticism are in the very article itself!

Florio is the epitome of a high-risk high-reward journalist.

there doesn't appear to be any spin, pretend you aren't a phin fan and look at the Murtha comments logically.

Murtha explains he still has links to several teammates -not Incognito or Martin. His tone is neutral and it rings true. If he were actually lying about these details, like the Vegas trip, that would come out and burn him. The article rings true and it matches what players everywhere are saying.

I have. And boy, do you ever need to follow your own advice. In stories like this, the devil's in the details. Martin spoke generalities. Murtha provides details.

he makes it sound like these are firsthand accounts which they can't be since he hasn't been there since August 2012 but anything pro-Miami you'll believe. I get it, the majority of any teams fans would do the same thing

Junc, the problem with Florio again like most of the media is they haven't questioned the motives of Martin and his family at all. Players on the team, ex players, or ex players on other teams have all said the same. Dansby stated Richie was a good guy and not a racist, now Murtha, plus all current phins. Lots of people piling on or not wanting to except that maybe there is more to this story than what Florio wants there to be. Everyone loves to find the villian.
