Journalists really don't do their jobs anymore (not just sports). I keep reading about how bad our run D is and that the rams are going to try and exploit that. They used to actually research stuff before writing articles but I guess those days are long gone. If they did a bit of research they would not mention that we have the 30th ranked run D. They would see that since we started winning, we are stopping the run very well now. This is just the latest example of a clueless writer. I have read probably 4 or 5 articles between yesterday and today mentioning it.

Yeah they just look at the stats and make huge snap judgements without actually knowing anything that's going on with the teams. You can't predict games based off of paper only, you have to know the vibe of the team. Right now it is very high and we just shut down Gordon well so why not Gurley?

Are we?

It's been up and down for the 4 game win streak. 128, 67, 140, 70. or 101.25 rushing yards allowed per game. If you were to simply plug those 4 game numbers in to the overall NFL rush defenses it would land as middle of the pack.

But more importantly than total yards allowed, if you are to look at the yards per carry we are giving up in the 4 game win streak it's not nearly as pretty. We are still allowing 4.9 yards a rush (83 attempts, 403 yards) and have given up 4 TDs on the ground as well. Now, if you were to apply that 4.9 y/a to the same scenario it would rank #31.

I think our run defense has been competent as we've progressed through the season. Good enough to win with.

It has been better then earlier in the year. Kiko is playing better as is Philips. Mitchell being back should help too, it did last week

If I remember correctly we pretty much shut down the run game of the teams. There were only a couple plays they gained big yards on swaying the stats. Also Pit was able to run the ball in garbage time.

OTOH, last 3 games, Miami has allowed 4.2 which is middle of the pack, and 3 rush TDs, one being a run by Taylor. Conversely, Gurley has averaged about 3.9. Add in Miami has played better OLs, and have Branch starting, Phillips playing better, Mitchell back, and VJ. Still, I worry about this game.

There's a point where the statistical manipulation get's a little out of hand, but I see yours.

And noted as well.

Steelers YPC were helped by the big end aroundfor 60 or 65 yards.

Honestly though I don't think teams have tested our run d as much as they should have over the last month. Not sure if they see our dbs and get giddy on the possibility of chunk yardage or impatience on their part...maybe our increased time of possession. Regardless I would have stuck with the run more against us in every game we've won over the last 4 games.

Our front 4 is also playing about as well as you can, and our tackling has improved mightily since some of the early ugliness.

The D-line is finally playing like we all thought they would from day 1. I think the biggest reason our D is playing better in general is cause they aren't on the field the whole time. The offense couldn't sustain a drive and give our D time to rest.

The one 60-yard TD in the Pitt game on the reverse inflates those number a bit but that's kinda been the issue even during the winning steak. Two or three brain farts a game by the linebackers or D-line and the RB busts a big run after being held in check for most of the game.

I am encouraged by the last game with Mitchell back though. 24 carries for 70 yards...2.9 ypc is a solid run defense...and that's that he had a few 10+ yard runs in that game.

The defensive snap counts for the first 3 weeks were in the 80's. Week 4 was 75, then our win streakbstarted and it dropped to 50's. Against sd it was back up to 70 something. Hopefully we can keep Goff and the rams down near 50 snaps.

When there is a penalty on every 3rd down there is no way to get off the field. Different refs will help this issue.

The downfall in journalism directly correlates to the amount of free news we take in as a country.

Hell a president just got elected due to mostly fake facebook articles.

I'm not sure that will be the case. Against us anyway, refs seem to favor the home team.
