TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A House committee has approved a bill that details the process a sports organization would be required to complete in order to receive sales-tax rebates on new or upgraded stadiums.

Economic Affairs committee chairman Jimmy Patronis, R-Panama City, sponsored the bill that gives a scoring sheet for the Department of Economic Opportunity to ensure specified guidelines are met. All proposals would need a $100 million minimum in renovation or construction costs. The legislation does not allocate any immediate funds to a project.
Patronis wants to ensure the DEO won't have to review smaller projects, such as a high school football stadium or spring-training facilities.
Representatives from both the Miami Dolphins and Daytona Speedway supported the bill, though Dolphins lobbyist Ron Book said some tweaks are necessary.

Stephen Ross is not the man who will bring us a new stadium. He has zero ability to speak in public and remains a despised figure in South Florida. He's got no chance.

Daytona International speedway (ISC), is pulling 400 million out of their own pockets for the new DIS overhaul, as the always do for any improvements or new projects. They were going to ask for assistance but they didn't want to wait until May for a bill to be passed, they paid the bill themselves, so the renovations would be done by next February.

this means what exactly...they outlined the process but it does not mean that just by following the process you will get money...

truthfully I don't want to see public money going to help a billionaire upgrade anything...he is a billionaire and he can afford to do it on his own...if he wants a loan from the nfl and it requires public money then screw him...go to the nfl and ask them to change the rules...

I haven't read the article. Would anyone care to give us some analysis of it? Is this a good thing? It kinda sounds like a barrier more than enabling legislation. Any thoughts?

This bill does little, and doesn't change the game for Miami in the least bit. All they did was set a benchmark of $100 million required before any sales tax benefits can be received. I dont see how this effects us in the least bit.

You just don't get money.

Despised in your mind. Is Steven Ross more despised than Jeffrey Loria? Loria got a brand new stadium and did it by tearing down a historic stadium in the Orange Bowl (that was never maintained properly by the city of Miami).

I think I would be safe in saying that Loria is probably the most hated owner in all of sports in any city. He doesn't even try to win.

Nobody cares about Loria or the Marlins in South Florida.

He just completed the biggest real estate project in the history of the god damn country.

He has no credibility?

The heck is wrong with people on this website?

He has no credibility when it comes to football and the business of football.

If you are using that as data then there is no help for you.

What else is there to use? Do you want me to also point out the fact that he's been a loser since he joined the league?
