You guys are missing A LOT of facts about Stallworth here.
Now, in no way do I condone or promote drinking and driving. BUT, in Stallworth's defense, this guy darted into traffic. This guy could have easily been killed by someone else who was sober. It's quite possible that had Stallworth been sober, he still hits and kills this guy. It's not like Stallworth was on the sidewalk and this guy was running for his life. He ran into traffic and there's no guarantee that a sober Stallworth could have avoided him. This is an accident and nothing more. A tragic, tragic accident.
As far as the sentencing goes, if you have a problem with that, take that up with the victim's family THEY are the ones who settled. Stallworth never made an offer financially to settle this. The prosecutors drew up the legal settlement—not the defendant. This right here tells me that whatever dollar amount the family received was enough to help them move on. Whatever the dollar amount was certainly can't replace their loss, but it's a number they felt comfortable with and Stallworth had no problems paying it obviously.
This is much more than "Rich athlete drives drunk and wrecklessly kills innocent by-stander."
