Stan Van Gundy is supposedly the front runner for the Indiana Pacers' coaching position. I always thought he was a good coach for the Heat and was sad to see him go. I don't know if he was forced out, but the whole Pat Riley thing worked out in the end. I think he is a good coach and am dissapointed to see him go to the Pacers. They always give the Heat trouble and it seems like every game goes into overtime. Any thoughts?

He was a good coach and I hope he does not go to Indiana. I don't think that would be a great fit for him

I don't think the Indiana job is a bad one and I think if he's offered the job, he definitely should take it. They have a great fan base, a good front office, and have some talent to become a contender in the East. This is actually a pretty good 2nd job for Stan IMO. I think Indiana would be a good test to see just how good of a coach Stan is and can be!

It certainly will be a test. Take over a lousy team whos star wants out, run by a GM that hasn't made a single good move in 4 years. I'd take the Sacramento job.

I hope he gets a job in the West. The guy is a good coach with the potential to be great. I wanted him to stay so bad. And now with Pat Riley retiring within this year or next, we are missing out on a long term type of coach.

Spoelstra better be good.

IMO, the Pacers shouldn't even be looking for a coach. Rick is a very good coach, it's not his fault that his GM sucks bringing in these headcases that dismantled the team [Artest, Jackson, etc..].

Indiana used to be a Top 3 team, then when Reggie retired, everything pretty much went downhill.

Yeah I agree that Rick should still be the head coach, But someone has to get the blame

Why would any coach want a job out West? With Houston, Denver, Utah, San Antonio, Phoenix, Kobe, and teams like the Warriors and Hornets up and coming, why would anyone choose a job out West over one in the East? If a team like Cleveland is in the conference Finals this year, who's to say that with some tweaking the Pacers can't be that team? I'd take the Indiana job over any job out West including the Kings job (although the Maloofs will hook you up in Vegas) because there is a much better chance at success then with any teams out West with a job opening (Houston not included because they hired Adelman)!

Brother Indiana is a sinking ship....if he takes the job he better bring his shovel.....theres alot of crap to clean up.

they offered Carlisle the oppurtunity to come back in the FO.

But Rick was not fired because of the record, he was fired because the team quit playing for him.

Granted the FO didn't help out, but I still think the trade for Dunleavy/Murphy/Diogu will help out in the long run. Bottom line is, they've done a horrible job drafting even before Bird got there...

here are their first round picks since 2000
2006-Sean Williams F, Memphis
2005-Danny Granger G/F New Mexico
2004-David Harrison C Colorado
2003-No first (but got James Jones in the 2nd)
2002-Fred Jones G, Oregon
2001-Jamaal Tinsley G, Iowa State
2000-Primos Brezec C, Slovenia

not that any of them are bad players, but Tinsley can't stay healthy, Williams didn't do much, Harrison looks like a bust, and the Jones and Brezec are no longer with the club (neither are Austin Croshere or Jonathan Bender from the 99 and 98 draft)
