Did McTyer land the other CB2 job tonight?

CB1 - Howard
CB2 - McTyer/McCain
CB3 - McCain/Minkah
CB4 - Lippett
CB5 - Tankersly

I'm calling Minkah a tweener here who will sometimes serve as a slot CB 3 and the majority at FS.

It'll probably be mccain. and if hes the best for it, so be it. But when we go to nickle, I expect mccain to slide into the slot, and then the boundary job there is a big ? ... I'd lean towards Tankersley I guess

McCain is starting at the other cb spot the rest are fighting for back up snaps.

Sorry but NO. Tank has looked downright awful in the preseason at times. If anything it will be McTyer or Lippett once he gets up to speed post injury.

Tank dime at best.

Lippett hasn't looked very great yet, I think hes not back from the injury fully. Tank has had plenty of mental lapses but made plays too, plays the run better than expected, maybe bank on his potential. definitely looks like he has regressed. McTyer competes hard but I just dont see a full time starting gig going well for him

McCain is absolutely your #2 CB... which is not the best spot for him... my prediction is he does decent but will fall somewhere in the #40-50 overall boundary cornerback. If he shifts inside at times, as of right now it will probably be Tanker and McTyver fighting for the backup spot with the hope that Tankersly picks it up eventually. I'm sure they'll also work in formations with 3 safeties and having Minkah lined up somewhere.

Right now we only have 2 good CBs which is not good. We'll be a bottom 10 secondary if someone else doesn't step up... our safeties should be strong but overall, just not enough depth right now... team knows Lippett is simply not a serious option at this point.

I think Tank will be just fine if we start playing man cov and Burke stops trying to be smarter than everyone else w his complicated scheme

I think we may be looking for our #2 after cuts are made. Last I heard, Lippett is on his way out the door, and Tank and McTyer only looked decent against the Falcons on bad throws by the QB. The inability for any of these guys to step up is a major problem and downgrades 3 positions, IMO.
McCain goes from being a great slot corner to a serviceable boundary corner, Minkah goes from being a potentially great (and much needed) Free Safety to a serviceable slot corner, and FS gets back to what it was last year - subpar for the position, while wasting the SS talents of either McDonald or Reshad. We need just one reasonably good corner to upgrade all those positions, so I hope they can find a decent veteran free agent...

Honestly I like the idea of Bobby McCain playing nickel on 3rd with Minkah playing boundary for that play.

Is that crazy? I know Minkah is best at FS and that nickel is his second best spot but I think our lineup looks better with this type of flexibility.

McCain has already won the 2nd spot but he will lose it because he is a nickel corner. I imagine we will rotate until someone sticks which I think may end up being Tankersely.
