ok, I made a thread on draft day with the same topic with Joe Toledo as our starting left tackle. Most said that was unrealistic... well now I agree. I see our opening day starting offensive line like this:

LT-Shelton
LG-James
C-Hadnot
RG-Toledo
RT-Carey

These are the most talented 5 guys we have. An alternative would be start mckinney at center and hadnot at right guard, but honestly that makes me puke. IF and I truely believe this will be our starting lineup then this years draft actually turned out pretty good.

I don't see Toledo starting. Plus, he is a tackle, not a guard.

Toledo may be able to play guard and tackle in college, but for right now, he is a back up with potential. Mckinney will start at center and Hadnot will start at RG with Carey and Mcintosh and Shelton all rotating the 2 tackle positions till week 3 when Houck and Saban decide who can stay the long hall.

I doubt toledo will start so soon, he only has something like 6 career starts at Tackle so they will prolly take their time and develop him... Also his stance is a little to high for a guard..Honestly he is a tackle prospect, but with work he could log some time at guard...Also i wouldn't count out Rex hadnot; Since he's been here all he does is get better...

I see this:

Shelton LT
James LG
Mckinney C
Hadnot RG
? Its a fight.....may the best man win.

Mckinney will start at C because he did last year and they wouldnt have brought him back if they didnt find him useful. When he goes down with injury, Hadnot steps in again and then we find who develops into the RG spot.

My guess at RT is Mcintosh but the only thing that sets me back on this is his contract and Pearson actually overcomes his injuries and displaces him. The reason I believe Mckinney will be back at C is they want to start the season with as much consistancy from the end of last season as much as possible so we get dont get stupid penalties. But moves will be made. I also tend to go along with CK on the notion of Carey may struggle to survive but may last another year. Carey continues to be a ?

They will wait as usual to decide on him. I would think that they would want to keep him at Tackle since he is so huge and they want him to get bigger! I think Toledo eventually ends up our RT. Carey moves into RG most likely but plays backup roles. But hey, I dont know squat really.

Toledo is 6-5 or 6-6 is he not? do you want your guards to be that tall? I know there are guys in the league like this but it promotes a problem if you ask me to have him there. we'll see.

I disagree with alot being said here. Mckinney was brought back as insurance, he is useful as a BACKUP. Mcintosh is the same deal, he is insurance, but again he will not be starting. Both players were questioned last year, both players will sit this year baring injuries.

and I don't see why so many people think its outrageous for toledo to start. Houck started two rookies on his SD line when they had their breakout year a couple years back. It is alot easier to start at guard than it is tackle, it can be done.

WOW, who made that??? Fred Beasley as our 3rd string FB??? Also I thought Renaldo Hill was brought in to play safety??

The O-line I'd like to see is:

LT Shelton
LG James
C Hadnot
RG Carey
RT MacIntosh

Unless W. Smith can emerge as a good center??

I think we are overrating Toledo - fans tend to do this with a lot of players in the draft. The fact is, Toledo wasn't drafted in the 4th round b/c he was a star!

I think he has potential from what others are saying. He has great size and good foot quickness and was a decent player. With Houck as the teacher, there is a great deal of promise.

But, our starting OL will likely look like this, imo:

LT - Shelton
LG - James
C - McKinney
RG - Hadnot
RT - Carey

I'm hoping that Wade Smith will be competitive at center. But, McKinney played much better there last year. One of the challenges of the center position for some guys is the mental side. As he becomes more comfortable there, his physical play will improve.

With Houck coaching these guys, I think L.J. Shelton (who has star abilities) will blossom into a fine LT.

It is possible that Carey could be moved to RG and compete with Hadnot. Carey seems to be a guy that coaches have never really figured out what to do with. He really needs to settle in and work hard at the skills he needs for one of the positions. Hadnot is a very good player but he's not going to dominate some of the better DT's in the league. Just doesn't have the size. Carey has the size and skills, but needs the meanness.

Toledo does have a shot at the RT slot - but likely not for several games into the season.

I think we are in much better shape, overall, however, this year than last. We have more depth, our line has more talent and we have a coach who knows the system and what we are doing.

Not only that you have to play the guys that you just spent 2 million on IE Seth McKinney....I dont know how long he'll start for...but I'm sure he will start....you gotta play where you're money is at....then if it doesnt work out then i'd say give toledo a fair shot...although since they drafted him he may have some quality playing time if he shows that he can play at the nfl level.
