Hey - I'm new to the board. I'm a die hard Jet fan, but I'm not here to start trouble. I saw the thread about Coles and wanted to reply to some of the comments in there so I joined up.

Anyway, this is not about introducing myself. I am wondering what you guys think of your current roster. I know a lot about the Jets roster, but not so much about the fins. If you're anything like we are on the Jets board you guys have an in depth knowledge of everything going on with the team.

I know you have Parcells running the show now, JT, ZT, and CC are gone, you picked up Ferguson, Pennington, Fasano, and drafted Long.

What do you think your strong points are?
What do you think your weak points are?
What key additions did you make through FA and the Draft.

First off, welcome and I'm glad to meet a Jets fan that's not here to start trouble. lol As far as our roster goes, we are rebuilding and havea lot of young (never before seen guys) on our team. So we haven't even figure it out yet but, WR is the weakest link IMHO. Running game is stacked. Watch out for Ronnie, Ricky and Parmelee. D-line is gonna be better than I though with Langford and Merling. LB's is yet to be seen. In the first preseason game 2 key guys on our D were out, Porter and Holliday so it's hard to judge. Secondary looked solid in the first game, they were flying around makin plays.

Overall, I think are D is gonna be solid, Offense is gonna be solid in running the ball but it's yet to be seen how the passing game is gonna be with the WR's and Qb's.

Well, we have Pennington who is probably a little better right now than the guy you just gave up a 3rd round pick for that is 39 years old and dumped Pennington for.

We have a young stud QB named Chad Henne that is actually even better than Pennington but, wont start this year. But, he will shread the Jets D for a decade or so starting soon.

Ricky Williams is back up and running. Probably the best pure runner in the league...at least top 3 when he is on his game.

Our WR corps is terrible. Nothing you should be worried about.

Our OL is young but, powerful. We will see how they hold up down the stretch.

Our new TE looks decent. We will find out about him when the real games start.

Our Dline is powerful and should make us much improved against the run. We really lack depth on defense though so it will be interesting to see how the rookies last after they have played 11 games which is what they are used to. Hopefully they hold up.

Our LBs are pretty strong but, we lack alot of overall speed on defense. This is probably our worst area on D. No depth at all here.

If LB is not our weakness on D its the secondary. They will have a shot to be decent if we can get pressure on the QBs, but again our Dline is powerful but not real speedy. Hopefully they can dominate up front with brute strength, keep other teams in 3rd and longs by stopping the run and then get a good push to bother the QB. Otherwise, our secondary could be in trouble.

Our punter kicks *** and the hell out of the ball.

Our place kicker could be this new kid Carpenter. We will see about him.

Our special teams should be much improved all the way around and hopefully make a few plays to win us a game or two.

Thats about it.

Strong Points- Front Office, Offensive Line, Running backs, D-Line

Weak Points- QB position(for now), Wide Receivers

I think the main additions we made through FA were Justin Smiley, Chad Pennington, Wilford(if he stops dropping balls), and also Reggie Torbor. We had an awesome draft and we really rebuilt our lines. We got two rookies starting on the O-line, and by the end of the season, I think well have two rookies starting on the d-line in Langford and Merling. Also Chad Henne is the future QB no doubt.

Well you got trouble son! Nah, jk.....maybe.

WV put it as good as I could have.

My simplified evaluation.

QB: undetermined
OL: average-strong
RB: strong
FB: average
WR: weak
TE: average

DL: average-strong
LB: average
CB: weak-average
S: average-strong

Going off camp reports and one preseason game only. this could potentially change drastically by the opener for the better or worse.

Key FAs: Chad Pennington, Reggie Torbor, Justin Smiley, Earnest Wilford (been a letdown), Randy Starks.

Key Draftees: Jake Long(OT), Chad Henne(QB), Phillip Merling(DE), Kendal Langford(DE), Jalen Parmele(RB) Shaun Murphy(OG)

Key Trades: Miami sent 4th round pick to Dallas for TE Anthony Fasano and LB Akin Adoyele. Miami sent 6th round pick to Dallas for DT Jason Ferguson.

I dunno if I'd say it's undetermined at the QB spot. Maybe it's unclear which one gets cut between McCown and Beck....thats about it.

Undetermined in the sense that we don't really know how Pennington will fair with the Dolphins, or how quickly he will learn the offense, gel with his receivers etc. I'd like to see a few preseason games before I evaluate him as our starter.

I've been chatting with a buddy of mine who is a cowboys fan. He makde an interesting point. Having seen his cowboys go through a flurry of QB's before Bledsoe and Romo he laughs at the idea of Beck compared to Pennington. "When you get a real QB, the difference is amazing." Having never worked with any of out recievers and minimal knowledge of our playbook he already had EASILY the best practice of any of our QB's. Not to mention the contract he got...anyone who doesn't think this guy is going to be the starter might want to get a psych eval. He's going to be the starter until he gets hurt or at least until next season. The only question is who will be the back-up. Im putting my money on Henne. My only question is who gets cut McCown or Beck?

Honest to God, Chad Pennington is the best quarterback we have had since Marino, and the fact that fans were hoping we wouldn't sign him is absolutely mind blowing

I hope youre joking about Pennington being better than Favre. Henne may one day be better than Pennington, but that day is well down the road.

If it is well down the road for Henne...I guess it will never come for Beck.
