Statement from Steve Sabol about hard knocks

episodes will consist of them going to heat games ...tbh,tannehills wife will be all over it.because they seem to involve the players families in some capacity.they will also make it a point to focus on the qb situation.i'm sure as they follow his storyline, they'll find a role for her in the show for obvious reasons.
And as always we will start to like a kid than watch him get cut.. Will be nice to watch some of the guys cut lose and see a lil bit of the qb comp

Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith was asked about the possibility of participating in "Hard Knocks," and said "that would be off the hook."

This story says nothing to the effect that it was Philbins idea or that he had to talk Ross into anything. My opinion, Philbin said exactly what Ross wanted him to here. This to me is obvisously Ross's want and his head coach went in front of the camera and said it was a 'football operations decision'. It is no secret that Ross is a media whore. To think Ross did not push hard for this would be naive.

You asked for the link to the quote and I gave you the link. If you chose to believe this was Ross' idea and not Philbin's, then so be it.

The truth is often difficult for some to believe.

The only concern I had about the Dolphins hosting the HBO Reality Series was whether or not it was fair to Philbin?

Was opening up his first training camp the right approach for this rookie head coach?

Ross apparently had the same concerns, and tried to talk Philbin out of it.

“The decision was a football decision. Made by our football operations staff. It was supported by our owner, but in no way shape or form did he force us to make the decision,” Philbin said. “It’s a football show, a show that will showcase our players….It’s a great opportunity for us to connect with our fans. The people who aren’t going to be able to connect with us on a daily basis.”

If Philbin’s fine with it, and he swears he is, then why should anyone else have an issue?

I guess it is easier to believe that the head coach is a company puppet than to believe he can make any decision on his own in regards to the direction of the football team. If Ross really wanted the Dolphins to be on Hard Knocks, I think he would have made his desire known weeks ago.

That is called "coach speak". In no way, no how do I believe that this was Philbin's idea. It is absurd to think otherwise.

Are you really saying that Philbin had to talk Ross into it? Why didn't Phiblin make his desire known weeks ago?

The Dolphin were not a top 10 HBO choice, HBO had to finally put it out to any team that would PLEASE do the show.

Everything comes down to money. Riddle me this............Who is being paid for the Dolphins being on Hard Knocks? Ross or Phiblin?

I think your cynicism is a little misplaced in the fact that I don't know that direct profit from the taping of the show is what concerns Ross as much as all the ancillary benefits that come with that such as more publicity and national focus, merchandise sales, and maybe most importantly putting asses in SunLife Stadium, or w/e the **** it's called nowadays.

Stephen Ross is a very wealthy man, I think he's not as excited at a couple weeks of filming type money as he is the long term possible benefits that might come with the exposure. Second of all, I don't even know for certain if Hardknocks pays the team they film, do you? They might be using the "Comedy Store" approach and saying "we won't pay you directly, but we're giving you a platform and you'll get ancillary benefits from this", and they might be right; people love reality shows man, I don't understand it, but people seem to love it.

Furthermore, I'd think more asses in the seats would not only benefit Ross, but Philbin, and the team as well. I don't like the distraction excuse, If the Jets can make it to an AFC championship game with after doing the show, we shouldn't have any excuses to not do the same.

for crying out loud. This team has a lousy reputation among the players and coaches in the league. Giving the league a glimpse inside during training might actually help to dispel some of that, and may actually help with bringing in free agents by showing them that the culture has changed. If you can't buy into that and you somehow think ross did it for more money, I don't know what to tell you. Hard knocks is going to happen. deal with it. don't like it? don't watch. after 3 losing seasons in a row, it's hilarious that some people actually are worried about 4 in a row. chances are this was and will be a losing season with or without hard knocks.

Phins fans will never be happy, and will never stop trying to play armchair GM.

Most FANS are happy on here, and that is awesome, as i am. as a FAN this is GREAT. your team is now featured on a show that most of us hardcore football fans watch every year anyway. this is GREAT for the fans and for the entertainment value of the team and football in general.

also - the jets went on hardknocks and then went to the AFC Championship game, so i dont know what the fuss is all about. I think these guys could benefit from a little buzz for once. They have been speaking out and making statemnts like winning the AFC and getting Rushing titles for a reason, let these guys get some swag.
