Status update on Tua - Not a Bruise, but Torn Muscle in Hip

Opinions vary.

I start with a new GM and a reset, getting younger and ridding ourselves of cap issues. If we have to restructure, add void years, etc. just to sign jags or end of career stopgaps in FA, we are losing ground, not competitive and not fixing the issues.

Yes, that means a down year or two. In the long term, I think that is best.
I’m in favor of whatever gets Miami back into relevance. I’m not emotionally attached to anything or anyone.

Also, Tua’s extension is now a fire-able offense for all parties involved, IMO. That was a franchise crippling decision.

And yes I fully supported it (before some a-hole chimes in). Who cares. I’m not paid to make those decisions. They are. Every individual in the organization who was on board with it and gambled on it needs to go.
Mad respect for the this

from my perspective the better OL around tua thing is wearing thin. do we need a better OL? of course, obviously. but that has nothing to do with this issue, and sounds like putting a new paint job on a car with no engine. pointless. the OL has nothing to do with tua's problems this year. he has barely been touched. tua's concussion was due to tua running into a db, who was just standing there. tua's latest hip thing, just a normal average nothing hit. the issue is tua is as brittle as a china doll. then as far as his actual football acumen, none of this will make him have a stronger arm or be more mobile and be able to extend plays. he is what he is - a very limited QB. not elite, not a $55mm a year QB. this is a bad contract any way you slice it.
Don't forget though, the o line has been an issue for so long that at one point it had tannehill, who was out of all things, tuff as nails, pissing blood at one point. Enough is enough, we need to fix this ****ing o line. But obviously I agree with the Tua thing, his injuries are more due to his overall history, dumb decisions, and being a "fragile" qb.

He has clearly said he is ready to start if the Dolphins make the playoffs, so it only needs a weeks rest.

Or is someone somewhere not telling the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
Or has he got a bet running that the Dolphins won’t make the playoffs

make believe tua had no injury issues, but everything else about him and how he played was the exact same. what # QB would you say he is in the NFL?

I don't think some people realize this but this past season was the all-in move with all the restructures and extensions. They went in with 7-2 offsuit.

They are now bust, and it's the choice between putting the house/kids up as collateral for more credit or walking away from the table.

i think he lacks emotional intelligence as well. he seems somewhat immature and entitled to me. that whole show me the money thing. the way he carries himself. yes i know his teammates like him, but being liked does not make one a leader. i think a lot of these kids now grow up being told they are a superstar their whole lives, and become very entitled very young. because of that they seem to lack and element of drive and toughness. i was a bit shocked pundits were so high on caleb williams. i couldn't get over the fact he was crying to mommy and had pink fingernails. lo and behold, he gets to the nfl, where everything isn't so easy anymore, and he just crumbles.
Wait what? Tua painted his fingernails pink?

It's not up to Tua though, or McDaniel, or Grier. This is a medical decision. He isn't being cleared MEDICALLY to play.

He's just a desperate emotional player looking to play. I wouldn't take his words as reality.

He's mediocre. I would put him between 10-15. But you don't have to convince me. I'm already knowing Tua ain't it.

How about this?

We build a good Oline and put a 6'3", 230lb, durable guy with a top 10 arm that doesn't get injured when he has to improvise and pick up a crucial first down under pressure behind them?

A guy that can take a hit to the mouth, get up and say "bring it on MFers", rather than a guy that we all hold our collective breath every time he takes of or takes a sack?
I actually think there are good QB's that can be drafted in the mid-later rounds which could become a quality backup, potentially becoming a starter.

We are stuck with Tua so having someone on the bench to learn is a good idea, to pair with a veteran backup like Huntley. Yes, that means carrying 3 QB's but with Tua's injury history it's practically unavoidable.

agree. and that is the big issue. that is all he is. and it is a wierd 10-15, because he looks like #3 against garbage, and #25 against anyone good. so what does that even get you? it sort of makes him closer to #25 than #3 in my view if you follow my logic. this profile just gets you nowhere, ever. the qb with the steady, or the rarity with the opposite profile, is what you want. there are some guys that are gamers and just find a way to elevate when it matters most.

It’s simple:

- Draft a QB. Even in the 1st round if he’s a decent value relative to where we’re picking.

-Hope he learns fast enough to be ready by the time Tua’s hit with his next long term injury. Unless Tua isn’t healed by the start of next season that is. Considering hip surgery is now on the table, Miami might not only have to try and draft their next franchise QB, but also sign a FA that can be a bridge QB while our rookie gets up to speed and Tua makes $3 million/per game to stand on the sidelines in shorts with an ear piece in while shouting positive affirmations to our offense.

I could be way off base here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Tua decides to retire in the offseason. On top of the concussions, it sure sounds like the hip is well on its way to being a chronic issue and this dude’s not even 30 yet. It’s sad to say, but I don’t think his family (especially his father) truly care about his best interests. He DESPERATELY needs someone in his life that can make him see that he’s headed towards a future that’s all wheel chairs and drool cups.

I said 2 years ago I would no longer defend Tua. I’m sticking with that. He’s an injury prone weak armed QB with above average accuracy and intelligence. Unless you have a top 8 OL, you’re not winning with him as your QB. Period.
as of now i am with you as well he makes the Yatil Green situation look like a minor sractch we should have brought in Mason RUDOLPH at least he can throw yes he isnt prefect but he is better then Skyler Thompson and a injured statue. hell Tua makes Henne look like a pro bowler and i would bet money on that just look at Henne stats against better teams compared to tua's
I am sorry but when i believe in a player I believe in them all the way. right or wrong.

Agreed although I recognize his quick release and accuracy but I've never associated him with being intelligent, even on the field. I still feel his mental game has been a liability and will continue to be. He's a great spot thrower and hitting his first read. Yes yes occasionally he processes beyond the first read but it's rare to see him do that effectively.
