We had waited a couple of days before publishing a story about Foley because we were getting the same information you were getting. As we all know, everything was speculation and rumors. Now that we have more concrete information, we published "Steve Foley Shooting." This is starting to look a lot "shadier" than originally thought. Please, before you come to any conclusions, I thought I'd offer this article to you guys.

We would LOVE your comments, thoughts, and opinion on the article.

From what I read of witness reports, I believe two shots were fired (at the car) and then the shots at Foley. What I found peculiar is why everyone heard 5 shots fired at Foley. If the cop was shooting in self-defense, 5 shots seems rather excessive.
 
It is going to be interesting to see how this pans out. Tough loss for the Chargers, I am glad it is not a fatality.

I believe it is not that strange for an officer to be on Admin leave after a shooting, actually I would be MUCH more surprised if they werent investigating him and the situation.
Report is that prior to the shooting Foley was dodging in and out of traffic in speeds excess of 90 :egads: . Also interesting that this is his second major run-in with the POPO in less than 4 months....
 
There needed to be a uniformed officer there. No one should trust anyone who says that they are a cop without a uniform/police car, especially at 3:30 AM.

Foley was being an idiot, but the off-duty cop was more of an idiot for not getting someone "offical" to handle it.

especially after following him for 20 miles... he could have called it in and let an on-duty officer take over... its all very shady...
 
I'm surprised that San Diego, quickly decided not to pay him the next day. I mean even the Vikings took a couple of days to decide what they should do about Koren Robinson.
 
I really believe a lot more will come from this with further investigation however even though Foley has a history of DWI/DUI I have yet to see
any published reports showing alcohol in his system.....But regardless,


can anyone on this board honestly say you would stop for some stranger claiming to be an officer without a car, uniform or showing the badge that continue to follow you without other officers showing up within the 20 miles it takes you to get to your destination at 3:30 am. Please I grew in South Florida and I wouldn't stop for anyone unless I see lights going and I am in view of other drivers on a lighted roadway...but maybe that's just one black man's view....

Stupid comment. Cops are on duty 24-7. If cops see a crime off-duty, they are required to take action. You ought to be more concerned with some idiot driving drunk and killing innocent people. Next time you are robbed or hit by a drunk driver, don't call the cops...just call the NFL. I'm sure they will handle it to your satisfaction.

I watched my father disarm a man who had just shot another man and everything around him, at the Rickenbacker Causway, on the fishing catwalks. For his efforts, he was almost shot by a city of Miami rookie cop...dad took THAT gun away too. They are ALWAYS on duty, and in the case of South Miami, the officers were required to be healed if they were within the city limits, on or off duty.

With all due respect to your dad Marty, does this mean he had to go see a southern Baptist Minister before going out on duty?:D Seriously, unless it is related to a dog healing, I dont know that means.
