Dolphins | Mariucci discusses Harrington
Fri, 9 Jun 2006 19:26:15 -0700

D. Orlando Ledbetter, of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, interviewed former NFL head coach Steve Mariucci recently. He asked Mariucci if Miami Dolphins QB Joey Harrington's fresh start in Miami would help and he replied: "Yeah, I think it's good for him to start fresh. It's been difficult. It's hard on quarterbacks that get drafted early. The reason they get drafted early is because the teams are in need of a lot of players and talent. To be asked to start on a developing team is difficult for these young rookies. Sometimes it doesn't work out immediately. Not everybody is lucky enough to be drafted to a good football team like a Ben Roethlisberger or a Dan Marino. (Harrington) will have more success if he has a chance to play in Miami. Miami is a pretty darn good team."

Yeah mooooch!!!!

with all this talk about daunte........... I'm interested about Joey now. If we hadn't traded for daunte we'd all be saying how Joey will turn it around and be a pro-bowler here.

It's nice to have two quality players at the most critical position on the team....QB
After watching the long progression of cast offs and retreads, it's great to see the Dolphins finally going after some real talent.
:D

Its good to hear that he has no regrets on the kid, I guess its just cause he is a class act, Joey should do fine with us, but he will not see the field much once Pep is healthy, hope he can show himself enough to get us something in return if we want to trade him, once his value is at least a 3rd.

interestingly enough, our 2nd string qb is more talented than any qb on the roster for the past 5 years
my thoughts exactly i like joey he had his best game last year against pitt so im not worried if he starts the season i just don't want to rush c.pep back. we will need him for the playoffs but it sounds like he might be ready week one that my friends would be a blessing but foe once in a long time im very happy with our qb's.....:dolphins:

Always did like Mooch.

Not just because of what he just said.

I just think he's a great person and an underrated coach.

I think we would believe he would improve here, and yeah some nuts here would be saying he's a probowler now that he's with the fins, but if we had just Joey and not Daunte to start then I think the majority of us here would be very uneasy about him being the starter. I think most of us are tempered at best when it comes to Joey. I think we believe in his abilitys, that doesn't mean instant probowl, it's just being open minded and letting him porve one way or the other his value as a QB in our system.

Mooch = bye bye

Great person - sure... Likeable guy - absolutely. "Players Coach" ? Yes.

But Steve Mariucci the past 3 years has proven himself very OVER rated as an NFL Coach. C'mon - did you watch any Lions games?

His play calling was SO atrocious the Team finally said, Hey Steve, let's bring in Ted Tollner to handle the playcalling. Or give Greg Olson the job - anyone but Mooch!! Of course those guys also looked bad - because Mooch was the Head Coach. For cryin' out loud - How Many short 2 yard slants can you CALL on 3rd and 8??

- He allowed the entire Team to become a Soap Opera, locker room bickering
- He couldn't RUN the ball to save his life - supposedly that was his #1 Goal
- He brings in Jeff Garcia, who sucks absolutely horrible proving it wasn't JH after all.

Steve Mariucci will NEVER be a HC again, at least in Pro Football. :shakeno:

Wow, now, Brad Childress needs to take lessons from Mooch. Joey still needs to come out and prove it on the field, but, other players (Steve Young/Brett Favre) have shown that a change of scenery can be good. I'm not saying he'll become either one of them, but, I think he'll have every opportunity to.

Wow, I must be an idiot.

I mean, he always had total control in Detroit. Never had an idiot for a GM.

I guess all those games he won in San Francisco must have been a dream.

How stupid of me.

Oh...and the smilies, yeah..You could do without them.

I always respected Mooch as a coach and thought it was a huge mistake to fire him in San Fran.

Right... we shouldn't use smilies. Why are they even there?

And it wasn't Mooch's job... to motivate that Team... to develop the many young Players... Or design any kind of Offense... Or call any halfway decent freakin' Plays.

Those were all Matt Millen's responsibility.

And George Siefert and Bill Walsh had "nothing" to do with that San Francisco team Mooch got all the credit for.

You're right - I forgot... And Mooch was never fired
