Hey guys. I was just hoping to discuss the possibilities of Steve McNair. Currently, he is in the last year of a deal in which he is due a $50 million roster bonus, $9 million base salary, and has $13+ million in dead money from restructuring in previous years. Obviously the $50 million was never meant to be paid and was put there to "force" a renegotitation. If we (the Titans) keep him, we will have to pay $1 million to opt out of the $50 million roster bonus, plus the $9 million base salary. When added to the dead money, this pushes his cap hit to just over $23 million, which has led many to believe that his days as a Titan are over. They are currently in negotiations.

If we do cut him, Miami is one team where he has been rumored to be interested in. It seems like a good match as you guys might just be a QB away from a Super Bowl run.

What do you guys know/think and what have you heard about any of this?

We've had extensive discussions about every possible QB in the league on this site my man. I think in the Free Agent Forum, you'll see some McNair stuff. People have mixed feels. I think he's an instant upgrade over Frerotte: he's way more accurate and even younger than Gus the fuss. Anyway I'm for any QB other than Gus, so I'm all for Air McNair.

NO. he is injury prone. he has passed his prime and i am sick of us shopping the used car lot.

keep gus and draft a rookie to groom. he knows the offense and that is what we need while grooming this young guy. a stop-gap qb, and gus will do that job for us well.

we will not make the superbowl next year, playoffs yes but no superbowl. with a groomed qb and a team being built through the draft alongside veterans, we will have a great chance the next year or the one after that.

We need a QB now while the young QB is learning. Gus is not the Qb that can win now. He sucks. Because of the injuries that he's had McNair has gotten the label "injury prone," which may be the case, but despite these injuries, the guy does not miss that many games. He has only had one year that he missed SIGNIFICANT time for injuries, and that was in 2004, where he played in eight games. He has not missed any significant time in any other season. We would be fortunate to have McNair here to tutor a young QB. Now with all the speculation from Boomer that Young may slip to #16, a Young and McNair reunion in Miami wouldn't be too shabby.

McNair isn't worth a look

Yeah sure...let's stay with Gus for another year or two while we groom a young QB. That's crazy. If we stay with Gus, we lose. Plain and simple.

McNair is FAR better than Gussy. If we dont get Brees, Id be thrilled to get McNair for 2 or so years, while we develop a young QB. I think we get Brees though. Ive posted McNair compared to Gus stats here too many times to count. He IS a significant upgrad eover what we have now.

Interesting to see that a lot of the things said here mimmick those said on the TOMB. Well, not exactly, but close.

His injuries have usually kept him out of one or two games each year, but rarely more than that. This year he missed two, the Cardinals game and the Jags game, and he only missed the Jags game because we were trying out Matt Mauck, which I might add, failed miserably. Several of the games he missed last year were because those games didn't mean anything, and with all the injuries we endured, especially at the O-line, he would've just gotten himself in worse shape.

I believe that with a good line, experienced receivers, and a decent run game, he could still be the MVP-caliber QB he was in 2003. Sadly, the Titans don't have any of that right now. We're losing at least 2 off our starting line, maybe 3, and our only decent WR with experience is Drew Bennett. Other than that we have an unproven Calico, Bobby Wade who we picked up off of waivers from the Bears late last year, and a bunch of rookies.

Steve Mcnair sucks, dont get him , hes old, we already have a old fart verteran(Gus Ferotte), its dumb to get 2 old guys as your QB's

i like mcnair, but i don't want to bring in another veteran who would cost money we need for other positions. frerotte has a chemistry with the players on this team already, let's just keep the rhythm going. i really don't want to look at any free agent QB other than brees.

Stay with Gus and lose, you mean the guy who helped lead us to a winning record. Im not the biggest fan of Gus, but Id take him over any QB in FA except Brees who I would love in Miami. If no Brees, then draft a good QB, and let gus start and mentor the young QB, maybe let him take over toward the end of the season depending on Gus. But I would take Gus over McNair anyday of the week. McNair should just retire
