I doubt yesterday could have happened if he didn't lay down the ultimatum to Philbin to either get rid of his butt buddy Sherman or he's out of a job too. Love the Benton hire, but still, don't appreciate that Philbin could (correctly) hire Lazor and then not allow him to make changes in his staff. Fortunately Lazor has apparently relegated the under-qualified nepotistic QB coach to busy work while taking over Tannehill's tutelage himself.

Does anyone really think that yesterday's outcome, let alone the more recent ones would have occurred with Sherman designing and calling the plays and Zach Taylor continuing to be Tannehill's prime mentor?

So thank you Mr Ross for getting real with a HC I know you like personally

I'd add one more thing:

Bringing Marino into the organization was a good idea. Ross and Philbin both deserve credit for that. I think a lot of coaches would feel threatened by having a Hall of Famer hanging around and trying to mentor their quarterback, and I give Joe Philbin a ton of credit for not getting his ego hurt over that situation.

I know Dan wasn't the most cerebral quarterback to ever play the game, but his attitude seems to be rubbing off.

yeah, true... as are Delmas's and Finnegan's attitudes rubbing off on the D also (and that one's on Hickey).

It's weird to think just how much Tannehill's development has/had to do with coaching. The guy was so raw and the potential so broad, that you could really start building him up from any category of QB play and see where it goes.
Looks like Lazor's emphasis on footwork, and taking chances with Tanne's strengths on diverse types of playcalls, has allowed Ryan to really grow into his own kind of QB on the field. I feel like he's no longer being overly-chained out there, and he's starting to play ball his own way.

When it is all said and done we will probably regret when Ross finally leaves(Age).

Ross is smart, rich(self made) and desperately wants to build a winner.

He has made mistakes but also is learning from his mistakes. Once he gets all the nuances of NFL ownership down he will be very good.

Though he has a lot of shadowy advisers, he is slowly accumulating talent to the front office so that this team could eventually run itself. Tom Garfinkel being the latest great get.

Thank you Ross for brining in Hickey. His first draft class is already making an impact.

Add to that Lazor and his impact on Tanny and the offense, and I thank you again.

Ross deserves some credit for helping to attract Lazor and Benton but our theories on why are very different. He's demonstrated that he's not a "fly by the seat of your pants" owner. Why would Lazor choose to work for the team who's owner stepped out of place and took it upon himself to fire the last guy? I believe Ross and Philbin convinced these guys that we are a stable organization, that we're building towards something, and we're in it for the long haul.

I don't believe Ross forced Philbin to do anything. I believe the decision to move on from Sherman was a mutual decision and if it happened Philbin would be given assurances that he would get extra time to install the new offense.

I think if there is an aspect Marino could teach Tannehill, its probably Dan's feel for the pocket.

Marino steps in.. Tanny has best game to date.. Coincidence?? I THINK NOT!!

Taking command is what I think he could learn from Marino. And he had command yesterday. He was telling his guys where to line up, he even gave the official a bit of lip over a non-PI call. That is a good sign.

Just because Ross stepped in to change the coaching staff doesn't make Philbin a terrible coach.
Your read is completely illogical, Roy.

Philbin, out of necessity because he could not poach Green Bay assistants, had to rely on his old friend and mentor Sherman. Sherman and his crew being recently unemployed provided an elegant solution to Miami's coaching staff needs. On the surface it seemed like a reasonable move.
Unfortunately it was a complete failure.

Ross made the correct call just like any good manager does. He saw the potential in Philbin but also realized that the rest of the crew was bringing him down.

Philbin was overly loyal to his mentor and in very "old school" fashion was willing to go down with the ship.

I really don't understand why people connect Philbin's loyalty with his ability to coach. These are completely different things.
