Steve Smith...

What happened?

he got ejected in the 3rd quarter when he was tackled near the sideline...i guess he wanted either a late hit or a face mask call(didnt see the game), he started jawing at the ref, and when he went to lean in to the ref, he grabbed the back of the refs shirt slightly, didnt pull, tug or nothing, then he let go..pretty much just put his hand of the refs back to talk to him, Ref called a penalty, ejected him for coming in contact with the ref.

man, that is harsh, but you cannot touch a ref for any reason. These guys are trained athletes hyped up on adreniline, and tempers flare, I wouldn't want to see an escalation of a situation like that. Steve Smith is a professional athlete, and he has to understand that calls don't go your way, and the refs don't/can't catch everything, and you have to move on when something doesn't go your way.

So stupid. In the NBA you can definitely do that no problem. WHAT THE HELL???

i totally agree. he was definitly wrong.

You never know what he said to the ref, the touch really didnt seem like much to me when I saw it. Guess the rules are the rules but I dont think he "went after" the ref or anything. Sometimes the 'spirit' of the rules are more important than the fineprint. Removing Smith in a game of this importance for that was pretty weak.

No. It's a lot of things. He is a baby.

What exactly classifies Steve Smith as a baby? This is the first time I've ever seen him do anything remotely "wrong", and this wasn't even that bad. Although I don't condone what he did, people shouldn't criticize him for a mistake he made, let alone after he got hit late, or got facemasked. His temper was flaring and he got too caught up. Bad move, but I still don't see how he is a baby. Maybe breaking your leg, missing a season, and coming back to play great makes him a baby? :p

I was dissapointed to see him ejected, but the rules are the rules. And how is he a baby? He's a great player thats what he is.

The rules also state that you can't blatantly slam down to the ground a player who is clearly out of bounds (in front of said official at that).

That was bad for Steve, there was no malice involved there. He didn't even appear pissed when he touched the ref.
