Still no decision on Ricky's appeal
No reason to worry why you haven't heard yet about the fate of Ricky Williams' appeal of a failed drug test. Rest assured, we’re still continuing to monitor the process.
Problem is, there’s just nothing yet to report.
Williams’ agent, Leigh Steinberg, said Friday evening he still hasn’t been given any timetable about when the NFL will hand down its decision.
“I assume they would do something before the draft,†Steinberg said.
Keep in mind, the announcement will only be publicly made by the league if some punishment is necessary – whether the punishment is as minimal as a fine or as significant as a one-year suspension.
But if Williams is exonerated completely, because of the league’s confidentiality clause in its substance abuse policy, they will only tell Williams, Steinberg and attorney David Cornwell.
Steinberg still assured me, however, that this isn’t a case of any hidden secrets. Instead, he simply hasn’t received any word yet.
“I’m confident that they’ll have some response, I would assume, next week,†Steinberg said Friday.
What the response will be is just as much of a mystery to anyone – including Steinberg – as the timetable itself.
