Still no decision on Ricky's appeal

No reason to worry why you haven't heard yet about the fate of Ricky Williams' appeal of a failed drug test. Rest assured, we’re still continuing to monitor the process.

Problem is, there’s just nothing yet to report.

Williams’ agent, Leigh Steinberg, said Friday evening he still hasn’t been given any timetable about when the NFL will hand down its decision.

“I assume they would do something before the draft,†Steinberg said.

Keep in mind, the announcement will only be publicly made by the league if some punishment is necessary – whether the punishment is as minimal as a fine or as significant as a one-year suspension.

But if Williams is exonerated completely, because of the league’s confidentiality clause in its substance abuse policy, they will only tell Williams, Steinberg and attorney David Cornwell.

Steinberg still assured me, however, that this isn’t a case of any hidden secrets. Instead, he simply hasn’t received any word yet.

“I’m confident that they’ll have some response, I would assume, next week,†Steinberg said Friday.

What the response will be is just as much of a mystery to anyone – including Steinberg – as the timetable itself.

Hopefully the Mort report turns out to be true. I have Monday pegged as the day also.
What did the Mort Report say Josh? That there would be news on Monday or did it say anything about Ricky being found innocent of this charge?

The Mort Report I saw was on Thursday night. He made these points:

- Decision could come as early as Friday
- Decision should come no later then Monday
- Latest drug tests(I guess within the last couple of months) are also being considered before making a decision.

The last part came across as more of positive news then negative news. To me it sounded like they might consider letting Ricky off if all his latest tests since are clean. Just my opinion.

Ah, that's right, I remember you posting that elsewhere now, my bad. Well, my fingers are crossed. I just think this offense will be so much more dangerous with Ronnie and Ricky at our disposal. Daunte, Chambers, Booker, McMichael, Campbell, Ronnie, and Ricky.. I can't complain about that lineup one bit.

I know you are a mighty VIP and as a humble newbie it is probably not my place to point this out to one so exalted as yourself but... If you were trying to avoid this forum and go straight to the wonderful VIP land, you missed.
