NFL Power Poll: Super Steelers stay on top for ’09

By Vinnie Iyer - SportingNews 5 hours, 50 minutes ago

17. Miami Dolphins. With sound fundamentals including winning the turnover battle, the Dolphins survived in many close, low-scoring games. Now that everyone has figured out the Wildcat, the offense needs more punch, and Miami’s defense also needs to make more big plays. That’s especially true with the Patriots coming back loaded.

Totally un-believable!

Good grief what did you expect?

Not everyone subscribes to the "Miami is headed for the superbowl this year"...hype...

They understand that Miami was 0-16 a year ago and owned the 1st overall pick in the draft a year ago...Miami still has a ton of weaknesses and question marks...

I've said before...Miami's "MVP" was a 3 way tie between that weak schedule, the Wildcat, and Tom Brady getting hurt..

Last offseason wasn't the hard part to getting Miami headed in the right direction...THIS offseason is the hard part towards getting Miami headed in the right direction and STAYING on that path...

considering how bad we played in the playoffs, im surprised we're that high.

we certainly played like a team that didn't belong there...

That's pretty good actually , considering we were what 31st , 32nd last year around this time...

imo. not to much if any of that is untrue. but no biggie. piss on them and there respect. now if next year we can re win the east and perform better in the playoffs, and still get no love then be mad. but i think we received a fair amount of kudos.

There's no chance in Hell the Falcons are the 6th best team in the league. Based on that ranking I can understand some fans no being happy we are ranked 17th, I mean seriously ranking the Falcons 2 spots ahead of the Ravens?? That's just ignorant. However we haven't even made it to FA much less the draft. I think it's way to early to be ranking teams anyways.

Need to explain why Denver, NO and Packers are in front of us. 1 team which we played and beat.

These ranking obviously stress where they think teams will finish in 2009..and Denver and Green Bay play in a division with Oakland, Kansas City, and Detroit...all teams transitioning from the front office down to the equipment manager..

New Orleans probably has better talent than Miami....with less holes and question marks...they also play in a division with two teams that made the playoffs in 2008..

I didn't think the Cardinals belonged in the super bowl either, but there they were.

Arizona 30
Atlanta 24 (in Arizona)

Who knows if they're sixth or not if the rationale is that the Cards are top 2 or so? I don't think I'd have the Falcons over Baltimore either, but what's the top 10 even look like?

1 Pittsburgh
2 Arizona?
3 Baltimore
4 Philadelphia
5 New York
6 Tennessee
7 Carolina
8 San Diego
9 Indianapolis
10 Atlanta/New England/????

Yeah, 10th or 11th I guess. We'd be below these teams but I can't see putting us under Denver or anyone who's currently under .500 after all, what did any of them even do this year?

While I don't agree with the list entirely, I do think we are ranked where we should be. Right in the middle of the pack. Let's face it, we're not elite but we're not a bad team either. We're just average right now, trying to build into something elite. I'm not a homer, I'm a realist and I can admit that rankings not ridiculous.

how can you put 2 teams we beat ahead of us?

yea i would say we r more like a 14 or 15th ranked 17 means we are bottom half of the league and i dont think we r.

Cause you beat or get beat by a team, that doesn't mean you're better neccessarily. on that day you are but not overall.

how can you put 2 teams we beat ahead of us?
New England? Because they're better than us. (48-28 better in round 2 in Miami)

San Diego? Because we more or less beat the SD team that was 4-8 at one point than the one who went on a roll to get in at the end.

Anything else?
