I'm as down as anyone right now, we are clearly a year away from being a potentially elite team. I think we have our quarterback, he didn't play poorly today, just average. We have 4 evident holes: Fasano is a solid #2 tight end, but we need a true #1 especially with the amount of 2 tight end sets we use. We need to upgrade ILB, whether its Akin or Channing. We need to acquire a #1 wide receiver, not draft, we need a proven talent. Lastly our biggest weakness is safety, Wilson has been just awful, hes a strong safety, not a FS. Give Clemons and Culver shots out there, I'd even like to see Sean Smith at safety but I doubt thats realistic. With that said looking ahead at our schedule theres room for optimism.

@ Jets: depleted run defense, helps our chances even more. W
@ Pats: tough divisional game, but I expect us to split this year, Brady isn't the same dominant QB he was. L
vs Bucs: just a flat out terrible team, no defense and no quarterback. W
@ Panthers: another woeful team, Delhomme has become a turnover machine. W
@ Bills: we've beaten them once, I don't see why we wouldn't again. W
vs Pats: I see a split, we win at home, they win at home. W
@ Jags: very random team, with that said anything can happen but I like how we match up. W
@ Titans: Remain winless, just a shocking disappointment. W
vs Texans: We never seem to be able to beat the Texans, maybe this will be our year, I put this at 50/50. W/L
vs Steelers: we play the Steelers hard, smashmouth vs smashmouth and we show up against elite competition. I say we take 1 of our final 2. W/L

Remember we started 2-4 last year, realistically I can see us ending the season 9-7 or 10-6, alot of the competition that appeared tough now seems like our easiest competition. Now looking at the Patriots schedule its tough the rest of the way, at most they win 11, but I think it's likely they win 9 or 10 games due to some very tough match ups.

Looking at the wildcard: our competition is Cinci/Pittsburgh (5-2), New York (4-3), Baltimore (3-3), Houston (4-3) and San Diego (3-3). I think one of those sports goes to the North and that our matchup with Houston in week 16 will be crucial. Don't panic Dolphin fans, theres still hope. If you wanna give up now just jump ship, we don't want you here anyway.

In all honesty, we're farther than 1 year away from "elite".

Defense: we need better safeties, better ILBs, younger OLBs than taylor/porter. Ferguson is very good at DT but he's getting up there, and I haven't seen anything to convince me Soliai can be the full time starter there.

Offense: we need better TEs. we really really need a big strong WR who can run routes, catch the ball, and also fight for the ball.
Henne needs a little more time, but he should be OK.

If we get all that, plus those players get a season or two under their belt, THEN we'll be elite.

In my self defense I said potentially, thats assuming we can fit those pieces together. We are competing with the elite, who says we can't join them?
