Bears running back Cedric Benson was back on the practice field Monday wearing an orange quarterbacks jersey -- but no visible marks from the scolding he received from coach Lovie Smith for leaving the sideline Friday during a preseason game against San Diego and skipping the mandatory postgame meeting. Teammates didn't approve of Benson's early exit and brought it to the attention of the Sun-Times, which confirmed through a team source that Smith disciplined the second-year running back. ... Two teammates confirmed Benson left the sideline during the first quarter and wasn't at the postgame meeting. The players said they believe he left Soldier Field during the game. When told that other players had leaked the information about his early departure, Benson did not seem surprised. ''That's cool,'' he said. ''I don't care to know who. Probably ones who don't like me.'' During training camp, Benson said he believed some teammates and coaches did not like him, but if that was the case, he did not care.

not to whore your thread, but what does this have to do with ronnie brown and whether or not he was a good option at RB?

BTW: he was though

Glad we didn't take him. Brown is going to be a load this year and he will carry the load. I don't think he'll miss one game and his receiving is going to go to new heights with Mularkey's short passes to the backfield. Mike will take what the defense gives him is what I gather so far and Ronnie is going to be running over, hurdling, and spinning his way to an excellent year.

Hmmmmmmmm............me thinks those Ricky comparisons were right on the money. Right now he's about as selfish as a player can get.

That report is strange to me because it seemed like just 2 weeks ago they were raving about how Benson was a model citizen in training camp and had all but locked up the starting RB job while Thomas Jones was nursing an injury. Funny how quickly things change...

I think many of the draft Benson backers were the same group that were RW apologists. It seemed like they wanted RW jr. I thought it was fairly obvious that RB would be the better all around pro and that he didn't have the potential to be a headcase that Benson had.

when did Ricky ever have a problem like this?

It relates to those who were calling for choosing Benson over Brown in the draft.

Why do people make these threads like all of a sudden everyone hated Ronnie and now the poster is some messiah proving us all wrong?

e.g. 'For those who called Reggie Bush a bust...' or 'Everyone who said Daunte for a 2nd rounder was a rip-off, read this:'

Thats what happens when you are good buddies with Ricky.

I think the problem is that players don't like the idea of a guy being handed the starting job, especially after Jones was their only offensive weapon last year. If Benson has a big year then all will be forgotten.

I still think Reggie Bush will be a bust and one good run is not gunna deter me. He will be a great return man, bUt never a great RB.

Ricky Willaims never had a problem like this and just because he retired. Ricky just did not wanna play football anymore.

Yeah taking Ronnie Brown was probably the best RB in the draft and if it could be done all over again I would still take Ronnie over Caddy and Benson.
