I'm so sick of winning the toss, deferring, and falling behind 7-0 cuz the D gives up an opening drive td. Happened against the ravens, jets and now the pats today. And I think it happened in the first pats game too. And I'm probably missing other times. You defer when you have a dominant D. When you have a Swiss cheese D it's a dumb move.

if we win the toss against Pitt we better receive, we can't afford to fall behind 7-0 5 minutes into a road playoff game. But I'm sure gase will defer since he's been doing it all year and we'll be losing 7-0 before I finish my first beer.

Learn to drink before the game starts. Easier.

Probably because Gase knows he'll need that opening drive in the 2nd half with this crap defense

I don't mind deferring to the second half; the stands are empty because everyone is still getting food or in line for the bathroom. I'd rather be on offense during the most quiet portion of the game.

I do agree we should choose to get the ball first and set the tone. If we defer or they lose the coin toss, the game will feel like catch up if they score. It will be the "here we go again" mentality from the start.

Miami sucks in the 1st tho. How many times have we seen them go 3 and out on their 1st possession, and get the ball back down 7-0?

I agree. Miami's strength right now is offense not defense and the team has too often got into an early hole.

I AGREE!!!! What we have such a potent defense that we should defer? Please!

Based on how the game started Miami ending the first half and starting the second half with td's and down just 21-14 wasn't a bad position to be in. If Miami had received the opening kickoff I could easily have seen the Patriots up 20-7 at half and then taking the second half drive down the field to take a 27-7 lead and pretty much locking up the game early. In fact I think that's what happened in the first meeting with the Patriots. If you're saying Miami couldn't stop NE because the defense is no good than you're saying Miami was going to lose either way. If you can't slow down the Patriots' offense does it really matter if they have the ball first or second?

Might be better to not have a bad defense in the first place. **** not deferring just because the defense stinks.

It sucks, but you make due with what you have this year. Falling into holes has been a problem all year.

It's all they can do. Typical Dolphins though getting within 20-14 and then they give it right back. Then again they trail by 13 and are at the 5 and Williams fumbles which ends the game. Typical Miami in so many ways.

Not typical Dolphins winning closes games and winning 10 games, and making the playoffs though.

Don't know if you are joking or not, but we do it on the road as well.

Considering that we run the ball pretty well, I think deferring is a mistake. First half possessions tend to be more run, second half more pass.

I like kicking off. If we could STOP ONE DAMN 3RD DOWN early on an opening drive we would be in good shape
