I’ve noticed that a lot of people on this site have become concerned with the character of the players on our team. Everyone who has ever done anything questionable in the past is suddenly a “malcontent†or a “criminalâ€Â. But let’s be careful before we classify everyone who has ever done anything remotely wrong. Let me also start out by saying that this is not in defense of players like Boston, Wright, Elam and McMichael. This is in defense of MATT ROTH, who I have heard grouped with these players lately, and to a certain extent Channing Crowder. First of all Matt Roth was in a barfight, he didn’t rob or rape anyone. He got in a barfight, that I can imagine went a lot like this; Roth goes to a bar and because he is a bada** football player, he is a target of guys who have beer muscles and are jealous of his stature. So they start with Roth and he kicks all of their *****, because they deserve it and they thought they were gonna win, 10 on 1. Who can blame him? And let’s be honest Roth is an intense guy and he didn’t back down from that situation, exactly the type of guy I want leading our defense for the next 10 years. There have never been any other stories of Roth doing anything, except for being an incredibly intense person; just what we need to liven up our D. As for Crowder, to the best of my knowledge his “criminal†history has to do with about 2 barfights. Big Deal! Another guy who lives his life with the same intensity he plays football with. And you can all probably imagine that his situations unfolded in similar ways, you know how people can be sometimes. Crowder’s slipping in the draft had more to do with his medical history rather than his “criminal†history. To me a barfight is not a criminal act, it’s not a mugging or an assault. So let’s be cautious of grouping every questionable move as a criminal one. And once again this is not in defense of people like McMichael, Elam, Wright or Boston; especially those that have done their crimes against women, that’s deplorable.

Good post. I worry about character, but Roth is no problem at all IMO. I think the intensity will be great and as he matures, he will learn how to get out of barfights and those types of situations. On the field he will continue to crush skull.

I don't care about people who get in trouble for bar fights, smoking marijuana or even the idiots that do stupid stuff like use someone's credit card for pizza or whatever.... what I will not give someone a pass on is domestic violence, rape, etc....

You weren't there. Not knowing what actually happened invalidates your comparison. You can't assume your own version of reality and then go on a rant about it.

Good post! exactly, we need to put this "Miami jailblazers" story into context. I hope roth plays football like he fights! Who of us caan't say he hasn't been in a fight. I'm not a big guy, but my two best friends are prof bodybuilders -- the most mildmannered, quiet guys you'll meet -- and they're always being targeted by big losers sizing them up. Mostly they walk away, but sometimes an ***-kicking is in order, and they deliver. As i said in another post, I'm not sure what Boson did, in the PC world we live in, a shove can be misconstrued as 'simple assualt" -- so that should be taken with a grain of salt as well.
Ricky, me thinks, has bigger problems than just weed, but that's for another post. The rest should be punished severely -- including Mcmike. But when you think about the serious offenders we're not any worse (YET) than most other teams -- and we're the freakin Wide World of Disney compared to Baltimore.

Witch Hunting is a product of a boring off-season. The media has little to write about so they try to stir the pot with ridiculous stuff like this that has nothing to do with football. Cecil Collins is in jail for a reason Elam is not in jail for a reason. Case closed already. The rest is really all minor nonsense and I bet the sports writers who are manipulating the more 'easily influenced' among us by promoting this issue have a good laugh over watching some folks making fools of themselves over it.
