most interesting line from story....

Coach Jim Mora is much more sensitive about the unflattering evaluations directed at his quarterback.

"I think it's unfortunate that people always put him in a mold," Mora told reporters. "He's a great quarterback. When are we going to start talking about when Peyton Manning is going to start doing what Mike Vick does? Let's flip it."

More interesting quotes...

The differences between Brady and Vick are palpable. Vick is a fabulous athlete. Brady is not. Vick is an extremely dangerous runner. Brady is not. And Vick has never won a championship while Brady has been the most valuable player in two of the three Super Bowls he has won.

and more....

"It doesn't matter at all. I really don't care what people's perceptions are of me. All I do is win football games," Vick said after the Jets game

and more....

There is no better blueprint for Vick than Steve Young, the great San Francisco 49ers quarterback who is also left-handed and who also ran too much and threw too haphazardly in his early years.

In Young's first four NFL seasons, he never exceeded 53.7 percent completions. After two seasons with coach Bill Walsh, Young's completion percentage jumped to 69.6 in 1988 and his quarterback rating went from 72.2 to 120.8.

"You have to get that running out of their system," Walsh told the San Francisco Chronicle. "The bottom line is it's not a position for Atlanta that is very consistent. Some games, he'll run and make all the plays he needs. Other games, he'll run and won't make it. So, it's hardly something you can count on, although it's a great dimension to have."

To me....hes a Running Back playing Quarterback.....it happens sometimes....just ask Charlie Ward....but usually if your a quarterback....sooner or later....you have to throw the ball in this league to win...and Vick is not there yet.

hahaha....WTH...Andre Ware was in no way close to a running quarterback. Where did you pull that from??

vick will never be a true threat to win a championship if he can't throw the ball

:yeahthat: You can win games but you can't win championships.

I get so sick and tired about how great of a QB that Mike Vick is. He hasn't done anything. If maybe you put him at RB or WR then you could talk about how great he is and how well he runs with the ball, but the fact is the Vick is supposed to be a QB. I personally dont think that Vick will last the whole game against us next week because he's going to try and run and one of our guys is going to probably take him out.

steve young? cmon. young learned under the best QB of all time, threw to the best WR of all time, and was taught by the greatest offensive mind of all time.

The thing I love about Vick running, is all the hits he takes. Eventually, he'll take too many hits and get hurt. Or he;ll be shy and won't ran as much. Then it's over. In a dawn where protecting the QB is so important I giggle every time I see him run and get popped by a LB. We'll see how many big hits he can take game in and game out and how long he can last in this league.

No kidding, he's been taking some big shots this year. He's one hit away from IR.

The last time I checked, Michael Vick was winning nearly 70% of the games he plays...

I'm not a "race card" kind of guy by any stretch being an ultra conservative type, but it is obvious that much of the derision directed at #7 is based on his skin color, not on his on-field results...

heres an interesting story on vick

Michael Vick Hit With Sex Suit
Woman claims star NFL quarterback passed along herpes in 2003

APRIL 5--Claiming that Michael Vick gave her herpes, a Georgia woman is suing the star NFL quarterback for negligence and battery. According to the below lawsuit, Sonya Elliot, a 26-year-old health care worker, was infected with the sexually transmitted disease in April 2003 after an unprotected encounter with Vick at the athlete's Duluth, Georgia home. Elliott alleges that after testing positive for Herpes Simplex 2, she confronted the Atlanta Falcons star, 24, about her condition. "I've got something to tell you. I've got it," Vick admitted to her, according to Elliott's State Court complaint, which alleges that Vick then told her that "he had not known how to tell her about his condition, and that it was not something that he liked to talk about." Elliott's complaint also contends that Vick "apologized profusely" for not telling her he was infected with the STD. Elliot's lawsuit alleges that Vick has used the name "Ron Mexico" and, in a related court filing, her lawyers are seeking Vick's admission that he used the "Mexico" alias--and perhaps other fake names--"for the purpose of herpes testing and/or treatment." In her lawsuit, which does not specify monetary damages, Elliott states that she met Vick at a Virginia Beach nightclub in May 2001 and, shortly thereafter, began a close personal relationship with the football star (though the couple did not have sex until late-2002). Last December, Vick, the top overall pick in the 2001 National Football League draft, signed a ten-year, $130 million contract with the Falcons, the richest deal in league history. (17 pages)

Really? So why hasn't anyone said this about Steve McNair, Anthony Wright, Byron Leftwich or Daunte Culpepper?

Racism? LOL

How about realism. Vick is today what Randall Cunningham was a decade ago. Unless he hones his passing skills, he'll be the same end result too.

Yeah and then the Falcons will have a QB throwing the ball not a RB.

They had begun saying it about Culpepper as soon as his team wasn't performing, when last year he was the toast of the NFC. Success hides much of the bigotry. Heck, ESPN's guys were saying many of the same things this week about McNabb that Rush Limbaugh said that got him fired. They can get away with it because he wasn't being what they believe is the measure of success.

As for the others you mentioned, they aren't the subject of constant national media exposure like a Michael Vick is. He can't take a leak without a story being written on whether he was accurate hitting the bowl...

Meanwhile, they hype up his shortcomings and downplay his successes. If he gets a paper cut, it's because he's a running QB and he'll never last, blah, blah, blah. I've heard it all a million times.

There is a bigotry in the old guard of NFL analysts in the media. There is very much a bigotry engrained in long time fans who see their QBs standing in the pocket, white as snow, and throwing 30 times a game, like your own Dan Marino...

That's what happens when you combine a kid with millions of dollars and no authoritative figure to keep his head on straight...

There but by the grace of God, go you or I if put in the same position...

I suspect he has learned alot from that incident...
