How important is the quarterback position? At the midway point in the season, the draft order is as follows (according to NFL Draft Scout):
1. Green Bay 1-7
2. Houston 1-7
3. Tennesse 2-7
4. New Orleans 2-7
5. New York Jets 2-6
6. Baltimore 2-6
7. Arizona 2-6
8. San Francisco 2-6
9. Miami 3-5

It's interesting to note that most, if not all, of these teams have had below average play out of the quarterback position. Obviously, most of these teams, including our beloved Dolphins, have a lot of holes. But the most obvious is lack of quality play from the quarterback.

This also increases the value of Matt Leinart and any other quality quarterback who declares. In the case of Green Bay, they would likely trade down for picks if they remain at the #1 spot. San Francisco has Smith as its qb of the future, but every other team on the list above could be looking for that franchise changing quarterback.

The Titans have a very capable QB waiting in the wings in Volek.

I'd be a little concerned if the Jets pick up a future franchise QB. The Titans could make a move for Leinart since Norm Chow is their O-Coord. Though I would hope the Dolphins would at least pick up a good QB in the draft who can start in 2 years. Of course Leinart would be the reasonable choice considering his predecessor Palmer is ripping up the league. Whether the Fins can or want to make a move for him is the question.

We will get a stud LT or a DT in 1st round. david carr will be the qb next season

True, but you'd have to think they'd still take Leinart at #1 and maybe have Volek start for a year or use him as trade bait.

I'd take Carr in a heartbeat.

I could definitely see Miami taking a LT like Jonathan Scott or even a DT like Haloti Nagoti (sp), who is an amazing athlete for such a big player -- a Sam Adams type perhaps. I'm not sold on David Carr, though. He doesn't have a great line obviously, but he also holds onto the ball too long and is really inconsistent.

Agreed with the LOT, though cornerback is a possibility before defensive tackle imo. Saban has shown this year that he prefers vets to unseasoned QBs and I doubt he goes the draft route to get one. Free Agency or trade is the way I see him going to address our QB position, though a QB in the later rounds is a possibilty

I really believe the Jets will take a qb at some point in the draft, maybe not the first round but that wouldn't surprise me either. Chad Pennington can't be trusted to stay healthy so they have to find someone else. Whoever holds the #1 pick this year could get a lot in return for the chance to draft Leinart.

He's thirty years old on what is otherwise the youngest team in the league. They'll take a quarterback early on this year or the next.

Your basic point is true, but to me that list doesn't show it very well. I'd trade our QB situation for GB, Tennessee and Houston in a heartbeat. Actually, I'd trade for any of those teams' QB situation except NYJ (assuming Pennington won't be back next year) and Baltimore.

You forget Reggie Bush will have a lot of teams salivating too. But I totally agree with the SUCKS (Jets) The writting is on the wall with Chad, hopefully there stupid enough to not see it.

You're right about Reggie Bush. In fact, I'm sure the Jets would love to have him as would a lot of the teams picking near the top.

Yeah, our qb situation is pretty bad. Bad I'd rather trade our qb situation with the teams likely to pick near the bottom of the draft like Indianapolis and Cincinnati.
