Though it was a great win by Miami, I think that something needs to be said about how long the defense was on the field. San Diego had the ball for 40 minutes and 17 seconds. That means Miami had the ball for 19:37! This definitely needs to be addressed. Granted, Gus came out slinging in the 2nd half, but something needs to be done to keep the defense off of the field. This has been Miami's problem the entire season. This will inevitably wear down the D towards the end of the season. I see many here congratulating the D for their play, but they are partly to blame. San Diego sustained long drives (and though many came out w/o any points) they still kept the D on the field for a substantial amount of time. This has to stop. The Dolphins were lucky in the fact that on 3 of those drives, Drew Brees came up with errant passes. If not for Brees' throws, the drives would have continued. This is just my observation.

Running the ball more would help. But each game is different. We needed points and we did what we needed to.

we won my friend, yeah we had half the time of possession that SD did but look at the drives that we scored on. A majority of those drives were quick drives and that's going to put the D back on the field. What would you rather us do, not score in order to balance the time of possession or put points on the board. I'll take points any day of the week.

Wouldn't that be 19:43 time of possession for us?

We sucked big time in the stat deptartment except for the important one. We've a long way to go yet but to be truly good/great, we have to dominate in the stat dept as well as the score. It'll get you into the playoffs regularly but not very deep. Sound familiar??

for reference so you don't think i'm talking out of my butt, you can see here
that we scored on drives of 3:55, 3:06, :57, 2:44,and 1:17

well indy has a high octane passing offense and their deffense gets a little rest. i just wanted to say that about the type of offense that may or may not contribute to the time the deffense spends on the field.

Its Marty ball. Hold onto the ball, have long drives then lose in every imaginable way in Big games.

SD also 11-19 on 3rd down, and on 4 of the failures they went for it on 4th and were 3-4. So in stop situations SD was 14-23. Stats like that usually point to losses but the # of situations illustrates the job done on first and 2nd downs.

Is a valid thing to look at....most of the time you'll lose the game what that type of numbers...this time we won anyway but is not a good thing and it does need to be corected...on the other hand the team is learning how to win this kind of games when not everything goes their way and that's a good thing too.

Ozzy rules!!

Like Ditka said the only thing that matters is the Win, so don't worry about stats.
